Send the $$ with western union.
Takes 2 minutes @ a travel agent or a bank, they are everywhere in the States and its instant.

Get him to buy a cheap camping matress (high density foam),
wrap it and tape it in that.
I would be sandwiching it between plywood too.

Good luck Mate.

i went to MANY window/glass places and was told the same thing from all of them...
1. They can't bend glass
2. They can't just drill holes in glass wherever they want for the mounts.

Glad to hear it finally all worked out.

During mechanics at school I saw a documentary on how windscreens are made, any holes, curves, bends need to be in place in the initial stages of manufacturing, once it's tempered you can't do a thing with it.

I used to work in a door window screen printers (fake leadlighting), we also bent glass in metal molds for stereo cabnets.

You can untemper glass but it becomes very firey and harder to work with, and would probably explode if you tried to temper again. We occasionally untoughed glass if we wanted to cut it down any, by just letting it bake in the kiln with the printed glass.
