To lay this to rest:

For australian delivered models

Series 1 L-series all had colour coded interiors.

Series 2 L-series (87 on) all had grey interiors of different hues. Red, brown and champagne coloured models had reddish grey. light blue and white cars had bluish grey. The rarest are dark blue cars with plain grey interiors (see my avatar  ).

DL models came mainly in white, beige and red, all with vinyl floors, as these were the barebones models. Vinyl was blue and reddish grey in series two.

Japanese models had additional things like full velour interiors (no vinyl at all), deeper pile carpets, very light grey (almost beige) and black interiors, and sports coloured interiors.

your source of info on this? reddish grey?? :? isn't that brown?!

i think we need actual facts.

saw two late '92 red and maroon GL wagons recently (AUS delivered)(yes, im not happy with my charade!) with plain grey interiors. Not reddish grey(!) or blueish grey. PLAIN GREY!!
my old white touring wagon had blue interior (no grey). Probably the only thing that remotely looked grey was the faded blue carpet.

My source is factory brochures and own eyes.

When I say reddish/bluish grey, the red/blue is not too pronounced. If you put the three colours side by side though (reddish/bluish and plain greys), you will see the difference.

Brown only came in series one and Japansese delivered L-series.

If you dont know for sure, dont make blank statements please Smoov.

same goes big nose!! i have had my head around many an L series in my three years of ownership of an L series, scouring parts at countless wrecking yards every other weekend, coming out for subaru meets and greets, looking at brochures, yadda yadda. I thought you may have had some concrete evidence, it appeared that what you wrote had an air of authority to it, but in reality, your argument has about the same substance as mine.

so relax, chief ;)
