Hows the radiator coming along? did we win the extra clearence?

I have a jaycar mixture meter, will work with gas after a minor mod, prob not good enough for a proper tune but should give a rough indication of whats happening.

I ll rustle up those bits as well, you can come up and grab them so i can have a drive :D

We now have 10mm clearance at the top!
Shaved the inner light surrounds a little, new top plate looks great.
Dump valve is being welded now with the inlet pip to the extra throttle body packed out a bit to fit.

I found a 5pk 1450 which is perfect, its sitting here on my desk waiting for 5 o'clock.

Did I leave my digi camera in your wagon???

220 kms under the belt now.
It idles,
I haven't been nasty to it yet it - bagged up all four 225's on the wet road last night "accidently".

How many Brumbys do you know that can go 1st, 3rd, 5th
at 1/2 throttle!

My face hurts from grinning for two days.

130km = 27 litres of gas.

Tuned at its roughest by me.

Noice work there Matt and friends

Just wondering how much more will fit into a Brumby engine bay before you need to remove the jack ! Mine sits behind a panel in the tray and only had to use it for the first time in four years at 1.00am the other morning, and the phuccer got stuck in its hidey hole too !!

Were you looking for power or economy with this project ?

Tis good that you can make the wheels spin as it is some sort of stress relief - for the mechanical components eh ?

Amazing handling now its on 15's and 225s.
It is a very grippy ride.

I Need 75mm flares badly.

Off to the big smoke hopefully wednesday for the big tune.

looks VERY interesting... i think Hatch could benefit from this too.

Can i get a rough idea on the costs involved in your Super Charger set up.?

This is a great set up, well done!
This is gas powered, so are you running the standard ECU for spark etc?

I know of a couple of Brumby's locally that are EJ20T powered, but are full gas, so they dont need to messa round with wiring etc, but how do the igniter 's fire the coils, how is timing controlled? Or have I got this 1/2 cocked?
I will stop past where these cars are for a look one day!

If I remember correctly the wonder brumby acquired a dizzy during the EJ conversion, correct?

If my memory serves me well I think the Wonder Brumby uses a modified Fiori distributor driven from the LH camshaft. I think Steve Rising Sun is the man behind that one, something about milling the back of the head to accomodate the dizzy, not sure of the fine details though. Full gas obviously means no need for fuel management, and the dizzy takes care of the spark side, so the ECU is left out entirely.

Dave, the Hatch runs on petrol and a coil pack. That makes it a little harder, but it is still possible. The blower Matt is using is the one I have been making a song and dance about for ages... I do remember suggesting this for the Hatch some time back...
You'll need to get either aftermarket management or an ECU remap. I've not seen a plug and play for an NA EJ, they're all focussed on the early turbo models (EJ20G and EJ20K). I've not seen anyone who remaps NA ECU's either, and I don't suggest this path as you spend just as much and are stuck with one tune.
When I considered putting an EJ22 with an SC14 Toyota blower in my wagon, I had to factor in the cost of a complete wire in replacement ECU. I hadn't fully researched it but the Microtech LT8s was what I had budgeted for and what I had in mind. I was going to try and use 4 coil packs for spark, ala EJ20 turbo, and hopefully use the turbo injectors to provide the extra fuel. This plan of mine never really got any further than a few sketches and notes in my trusty notebook, so I don't really know if it would be a goer or if I'm making a fool of myself. You never know about these things until you're halfway in, for all I know the injectors wouldn't fit and the ECU wouldn't play ball.
Rough guesstimate of cost excluding stuff arounds but including initial EJ conversion costs (with adaptor plate, EJ flywheel and custom clutch) was around the $6000 mark. Not saying it couldn't be done a lot cheaper, and if the car was already EJ I'd guess around the ~$2500 mark, again possibly less.
Costs I didn't factor in were new tyres after I smoked them off and new shafts after I snapped them like twigs!

I found this site while I was perusaling a while ago, halfway down it mentions how to adapt an 1982 escort dizzy to the EJ22, it is also a points dizzy, but he says he was going to test an 1983 escort dizzy which is electronic but hasn't updated the site.

Might pay for someone who's interested to contact him about it.

We all know what a pain in the arse points are

Very interesting Baron, it just goes to show that "dumbing down" an engine still gets results, in some ways a lot simpler and easier to live with. I like this due to no complicated associated emissions crap that could be eliminated on some conversions, within limits to get passed for rego, certificates etc.
You get close to or as much power, depending on tune, but efficentcy and economy may suffer marginally compared to full ECU control.
