i got a 4x4 buggy too ....but mines got 300zx power, hilux diffs, and boonta sized tyres :D..super long travell suspension ....but getting rid of it shortly

they are fun...just go for it...sometimes u take what you can get ..hahah

I like the ea81 in the brumby idea the best, that wagon is a mess... plus I will need all the bolts for my lift anyway.

Orrr we could put the ea82 into the brumby? It will bolt up easily, and we can just dodge up the wiring to make it run.

Wow that thing is sick....

I think the brumby idea is the best. Would be much easier to get a ea81. Don't really want to mess around with flywheel clutch etc etc

But not sure on the weight cause of the rear tray. Should we keep it or just cut it out?

EA82 in a MY requires cutting the chassis rails even more than fitting a quadcam EJ lol.
It's also a worse engine than the EA81.

slap an ej22 in there hey. I have one i can donate, but it has an unknown cooling problem. Could be headgasket, could be a stuffed head, i dunno.

no wiring tho.

I say go for a my as the ea81 is simpler and has no cam belt to break, also much more rear wheel travel without much modification.

Yeah ea81 is the easy choice, and at least it is reliable. And to think I had 2 ea81s and got rid of them lol.

About cutting the rear tray out... I guess it couldn't hurt could it? Even less weight at the back, easier to fling it sideways:D

I know where there will be 2 EA81s very soon

Ok guys,

I hopefully will definitely go with the brumby bug plan. Here is what I have come up for the roll cage. I think it would be best to bend the two side pipes to shape and then weld the rest to strengthen it.

What do you guys think? would i need more bars welded?
That said i want to try and use the less possible material as i want to keep cost to a minimum. The car will be used as a bush buggy but not a stunt or demolition derby car:). So i want to make it safe accordingly.

Also what would you suggest as a way to get some extra lift but without installing a lift kit? apart from 15 re-drilled rims that we are gonna use.

Alrighty then, cage looks good, just need to add a narrow "V" to the windscreen area and maybe add an X to the side area where the doors would be? Are you thinking of doing it with circular tubing or square tubing? We are going to need a pipe bender if it is circular. Otherwise if we use square tubing we could just weld every point (not sure how safe that is but have seen buggies done like this before).

Can't we use rodeo shocks for the rear? And I'm not sure for the front struts though... are they adjustable on the brumby?

Are we gonna cut the roof off? Is that better. I think your v and x would be better if the roof is off. If the roof is still there maybe we don't have too.

Yeah they are adjustable but not by much an inch max i recon. Rodeo shock would only work if it was lifted.

I would use circular pipes as and get a exhaust shop i know to bend it, well i'll ask him first. If that's too expensive or he doesn't want to do it we could use square to eliminate the need of bending.

I don't want to invest too much money in it as it gonna eventually get abandoned.

P.s anyone got some metal pipes they want to get rid of and donate?

Hummmmm, we could maybe use this welded diff i have:)

Yes welded diff for sure! haha

May as well cut the roof off, unnecessary weight lol. The extra pipe to make the v and x wouldn't cost much more and would weigh nothing so I reckon we take off every single kilogram we can haha.

I will look around for metal tubing etc. as well, some construction sites might throw out some scaffolding and that would be perfect.

I think with lifting etc. Only do as much as required to nicely fit the 15's in there, we might be able to get away with just cutting and bashing? I know I did with that yellow MY wagon haha.

Also, I know of a cheap way to lift the rear suspension, weld the top half on an old shock to the rear shock rather than using the metal shock extender on normal lift kits.

I'm just brainstorming at the moment but it seems to be coming together, anybody offered a cheap EA81 yet?

Nope no offers on a ea81 yet.... Come one ppl be generous:)

Was talking to RSR555 2day and thats what he was suggesting if the roof stayed.
Image

The bottom plate would be welded to each leg and bolted to the floor with plates both side.

Hummmm yeah might cut the roof off but we would need weld the side to the cage so the cage prevents it from bending in two.
If we cut the roof we could keep the sides the same as above and weld some more like this.
Image

He also suggested we could weld some triagle plates in some corners to add strength like this.

So i guess we need to decide if we are keeping the roof or cutting it off???

If you read the thread from the start, we are planning to make a buggy out of a brumby shell for the main purpose of trashing it in offroad tracks. The car is never gonna drive on the road! We just want to make it safer just in case we roll it at the minimum cost possible....
