What model have you got on your's Wilbur?
I have only ever come across one person that had these sorts of devices fitted to their car. It was when I was working as a professional fisherman on the beach. We teamed up with a pro from Jacobs well and fished on south Straddie. Generally when a pro launches their boat they try and kee the car as dry as possible.
Not this bloke. He had a towball on the front of his ute (6 year old Hilux deisel) and used to just drive it towards the surf and slam the brakes on when the boat started to float. There were waves hitting it fair smack on the grille and water was going all over it. He simply backed it out and waited for the boat to return with the other end of the net. Then he would drive it back in to the surf and hook the net to the towball and drag the lot back out.
I spoke to him about rust later that arvo when things had quietened down and he told me he had had the car from new and had it rustproofed and an electronic rust preventer as well. The ute was spotless as was his trailer. He swore by the electronic preventer saying that his old ute rusted out in a few years time using it that way but the new one wasn't. The ute would be on the beach permanantly for a month or more through mullet season and didn't ever look like getting a wash unless it rained while it was there. Obviously it was washed well when they got home though.
This was about 7-8 years ago and manufacturers were spending more on rust prevention when the cars were built. I reckon all of the things that were done to it helped but it has convinced me that I need one for my car. If it doesn't work then I have wasted $400 odd dollars. If it does work then I have prolly saved way more than that.

I have the 4 coupler/pad system on myne. The director of the company laughed at me and said I only needed 2 but I say the more the better. I don't want my investment to rust away under me.
Basically the 4 pad system was designed for what BYB-01 has just said. Driving into the surf and basically living on the beach or in a very corrosive environment. The 2 coupler system will do Patrol and Landcruiser size vehicles that go to the beach once a month or something like that or the 1-2 week family holiday per year. Single pad units are designed for cars up to Comodore/Falcon size 2wd cars.
Any more questions, just ask. I am happy to explain things.
Just something else. When these things are fitted to a new car they get a fully underwritten 10 year corrosion warranty (from the date of manufacture of the car) along with a 10 year warranty on the unit itself (which everyone gets). So if you have a 2002 car you get a unit fitted now, you still get 6 years of corrosion warranty and 10 years warranty against the unit failure (which is pretty much guaranteed to never happen bar you running over it in a steam roller or something).

Obviously I've done a couple and they are very easy for anyone that has a little mechanical/electrical nouse. All you need to do is mount the unit (size of a box of cig's). Wire in a few wires (power, earth and the amount of couplers (1 each)). Stick the pads on a nice even painted surface and run a bead of non-acid based silicon around the edge. Put the fuse in an wacko. The little green light will be flashing away in no time.
If your interested Couplertec do self fit kits where all you have to supply is the silicon, wire strippers/crimpers and some time.
