I just went through and calculated my fuel consumption for the trip.

Car:
1991 EJ22 GX Liberty ~170K
built 4.11 auto running 4.44 diffs
205/75R15 tyres
Weighed in at 1.84T fully loaded.
No Trailer. Nothing on the roof racks.

In short I did 8381kms and averaged 10.09L / 100kms. I am VERY happy with this considering some of the roads we drove on and the load i was carrying.

I was the lightest rig on the trip and it really showed at the bowser. I couldn't help but smile every time the other guys told me how much fuel they had used!!

See the attached pdf file for details. It was interesting to see i used nearly 17L / 100kms on the beach and got down to as good as 8.6L/100kms drafting the huge racecar trailer!

the sweetspot for these cars seems to be 80-90kph. It saves you about 1L/100kms

I couldn't be bothered doing a spread sheet of our fuel. Doing the sums though shows 8835 kilometres traveled for a total fuel use of 1065 litres.

12.057L/100.
2.5L Outback towing a trailer. Estimated weight of 2500kgs - minimum.

Not a bad average usage but the trip from the gulf to home was with out a trailer. It would have been worse if the trailer was still on.

Untrailered from Wollogorang total k's was 3366 and fuel used was 296 litres. Average of 8.79L/100

Best economy was had when the foot wasn't flat to the floor. Night time and early morning were noticeably better than the middle of the day. When we did manage to slip stream some one we could see an improvement in fuel. Most of the time we had to lead. The 2.5 just didn't cut it when we had head winds.

Looking forward to next trip. More power and a better van.

26 cents per k for me. No idea on my litres as I never wrote it down. Not bad considering how it was driven.

My fuel usage for trip ...... lots, I havnt been bothered to work it out exactly yet but roughly working it out in my head is about 15 litres to the 100 average, worst fuel usage for the trip was from home to Dalby (with trailer brakes stuck on the whole way) approx 20 litres to the hundred for that section, not too bad for the big 3 ton rig, anyway we logged the whole lot so I will post back the exact figures when I work it out.

Breakages for the trip,one cv boot,one wire rubbed through for intercooler pump(my fault),cam belt tensioner pully bracket snapped from front of motor(had an unseen hairline crack in it, as the motor is a jap import it was probably caused by frontal impact, one snapped cam belt tensioner pulley bolt(due to human error) three snapped cam belt tensioner pulley bracket bolts (due to human error again) lighter plug earth wire issues due to overloaded lighter socket(Kims jug for coffee), one flat tyre on trailer(POS cooper tyres) ..... and ran OUT OF BOURBON too many times!!!

I worked mine out through the scribbles i did after each tank and i averaged 12.2l/100.
Vehicle: Tuff Bronze Liberty Wagon with a camper trailer on
Engine: EJ20T VF8 std boost
Gearbag: 5speed dual range with 4.11 diff missing revers for the last 3300kms or so
Total distance travelled: 8592kms
Tyres: 29in muddys.

Dave you should invest in a proper log book for the next trip, that way you will get a more accurate total

All I did was work out the fuel consuption per fill up of each tank, including the roadside jerry can fill ups, and added then together to get a total and the total K's was what the GPS spat out at me. Yes i know its not the most accurate way of doing it.

i kept a detailed log but I must admit i was getting over it by the end of the trip...

out west it was fine but taking the time to fill in the log book while some guy behind you is waiting doesnt really go well in the city..

Distance covered by trip metre
Odometre reeding.
Also compared it to the GPS. Which was quite interesting. Some times it was close enough to exact yet other times it would be up to 30 k's different at the worst.

Onother thing we found interesting was the distances given from town to town by the maps never agreed with what our GPS said it would be. Yet our GPS and trip metre were pretty well right from town to town.

One that stands out from memory was from Alice to the turn off to Ayers rock. The map told us it was 20k's longer than what it actually was. All I can put it down to is roads being straightened/redirected over the years but the signs aren't updated.
