how much for RX rear discs?

Just a quick question, how much would you expect to pay for an RX rear disc set-up?
Went to the wreckers this arvo, found they had a new car (an RX) with lots of goodies still on it. But they wanted $550 for the discs and another $550 for the rear LSD!
I've got no idea what a diff like that's worth but the price for the discs seems f*&%ing ridiculous.
I've gotten some things at good prices from this place before but then other things like an early liberty airbox (no AFM or anything) they wanted $120!
I was so stoked when I found the discs and then so pissed off when I went and got that price, just thought I'd give my 2 cents.

You can pick them up from NZ for cheaper than that

I got a set without hubs cost me $120 from the wreckers

Yeah I've seen a disc brake rear end go for as low as $150 and as high as $550.
An old clutchpack RX rear diff is really not worth much these days, you can get the later Viscus units for $400 from wreckers.
I'd expect to pay between $150 and $300 for an RX rear diff I suppose.
This place seems pretty steep on price, I'd shop around or offer them a much cheaper price (maybe 500 for both??) u might get lucky.

A set of used rear discs out of the US would cost $100 US ($110 AUD)...expect at least another $150 in shipping though. Still, less than $300 landed.

You could save on shipping if you just brought the hubs&calipers themselves over, i think that's about all you need to convert a drum rear end to discs. Buy the discs themselves new locally.

^^ You'd need the backing plate as well (bit that the caliper bolts to)

Ah yep thats right.
Still would be fair bit cheaper to leave the main rear end assembly out if your talking shipping to AUS.
heh...by the way....I'll let my RX disc brake rear end go if somebody offers me 500 bucks, will help me to afford another Crossbred kit

Exactly what I did - turned out very well. I would go with the NZ suggestion - cheaper freight from there.

As a contrary opinion......I would grab them.
If they came off a car that was recently driven (or wrecked) as opposed to sitting around for years, then they may just bolt in without any more expense. Plus if you had bought them yesterday, they'd be in your car allready. Offer them a grand for both.

I bought the whole car from a wrecker to stop the parts disappearing trick for $600 (minus bonnet and some lights at front and bumper). The discs have good thickness. They are destined for my Brumby eventually

couldn't 'give' mine away - sold them to a wrecker for $250. Entitre clapped out RXs go for $500 - $1000

My personal opinion being I wouldn't bother with the rear wheels discs over drums - I only did so to meet DRT regs here in SA.

Subaru brakes of that era were still miles better then say the Mitish Cordia turbo

And then again, unless you're keen on retaining the classic 4 stud rims, the $550 would go halfway towards paying for a 5 stud conversion.

I still want that clutch pack limo for $550 though.
