Purchasing a WRX

Post by Dan_592 » Wed May 07, 2008 7:03 pm

hello all im new to these forums so i guess il start off by introducing myself,
my names Dan, 19 and from Tassie.

Im thinking of buying a 1994 WRX from melbourne, as i like the shape of them and cant afford a 2002 plus model, all i really want to know is how well they go, ive driven a 2006 WRX and loved it, from the handling right through to the power,

just wondering if the 1994 models goes half as well as them, ive read somewhere that they lie in the 155kw range,

thanks for any answers i get back,

cheers

Dan.

they are a quick car. Will still blow you away.

just be careful with a car that age. Especially turbo make sure services are up-do-date. And things like suspension tend to go around that age as well.

i had a 95...went hard untill it died...rebuilt it...made big power..went really well..tehehehe

GC8 is the best shape but if i was u i would try getting one a little newer like 97 to 99, they bit more reliable and have the better front end and bonnet and after 98 had the updated interior

its easy to make faster if the motor is low kms...if its high its a lot more risky to stretch power out of

Just be careful, some WRX's arent real WRX's, they are Impreza RX turbo conversions. Check the VIN number before you buy.

Leather came as standard on some limited editions.

Gday dan! Which end of tassie are you from??
Sounds like a pretty nice car, But I would be over there to look at it before you commit to anything, Probably your best option.

Given the age and km's of the car plus the unusual interior it could also be an import so keep this in mind if checking it out. A good give-away is the imports generally are speed limited to 180km/h and the speedo's only read up to this speed. The aus delivered models will read higher.

Can also easily see if it's an import from the rego papers and compliance plate. But I guess it will make for a fun test drive if you can convince the salesman to let you test out the speed limiter :P

I have a 96 which is basically the same and it is fantastic Its coming up to 345,000 ks and is going as strong as ever I,ve only ever had it stop twice and both times it was the fule pump. I do get it religously serviced every ten thousand, which can get expensive and it has had new struts front and rear (twice) new disc rotors (lots of them) new clutches, new cvs (once) and the adjustment on the drivers seat stoped working and cost about 50 bucks to fix. the steering wheel is starting to wear now mas is the shift knob, but nothinh to worry about just yet.
overall I find that is a very capable car on any surface(well, not offroad)obviously at any speed.
