96-98 Outbacks - Auto or manual?

Post by chriso » Tue Mar 25, 2008 1:59 pm

I'm contemplating my next car, thinking about getting an Outback as I've seen gen2's advertised for under 10grand. Most of them are auto's though, are there any problems with these?
Manual is preferred of course but I'm getting a bit partial to not having to change gears... Just don't want a slushbox like the last Camry I drove...
It won't be seeing much off road work, mainly dirt roads and camping trips.

they are generally pretty good. Fresh oil makes massive differences.

they can suffer from torque bind if the fluid hasn't been changed. To test drive slowly in full lock and see if you can feel shuddering .It won't be gutless like the camry.

Got any pics of yours with the big tyres? I've found a white manual w/leather and would love to put big tyres on it if I buy it.

I'm still unsure if its silly to have a Liberty AND an Outback between me and ms'.. Both gen2's.
