False Odometer Reading

Post by cain » Fri Feb 29, 2008 8:43 am

I bought an 01 wrx about a month ago which it says it has 87,000 k's on it.
My mechanic called subaru to get a background check on it, and the last time they seen it was in may 06 and it had 123,000 k's on it. So i have been screwed.

What do i do in this situation??

take a 2x4 to the bloke you got it off. thing they do is just swap the cluster out for a lower km one. did it have the 100,000 km service in the history book?

The weapons idea sounds to be the trick.

But , No offence, If it had the 100,000 km service in the book didnt you think it was too good to be true??

Im not calling you stupid or anything though.

I failed to mention that it didn't come with the service history book.
We had to contact subaru to find out this info.

Oh ok. I understand now.

Sorry about that.

The motor number and such do match the car?? They havent changed the motor and cluster at the same time?

Let the Police do it...Fraud is a serious crime.

They love their work done for them, get all the paperwork and bowl up to the local station,
bish bosh bash.

Was it private or a commercial seller?

yeah i was thinking about getting the police involved.
It was a private seller, and i do have a bunch of evidence already.
Just need the service from subaru on paper.

Let the cops do it, they have to do it all the time and they are good at it. Let his cell mate "comfort" him in his darkest hour

So you can get full service history list from Subaru? didn't know that....
What do they charge for that?
My log book is stamped with the authorized Subaru services.........

The car in this topic, don't think its suggested its stolen, so why would he visiting a cell? tampering with odometer? might be a fine/conviction only.....

Private sales always a bit risky, but sales from a dealer for cars > 3yrs old is also fairly much "as is" and buyer beware also.

What exactly can the police do about this? I wouldn't have thought much at all?
