mention has been made of an 8 bolt EJ20. were some simply four bolt like EA series or are they all 8 bolt jobbies?

'99 was the first of the 8 bolt motors. Pre '99 they were 4 bolt.

Early EJ's (i think) up to 96-98 are 4 bolt jobs. Since then they're 8 bolt. Word has it an 8 bolt gear box will mount to a 4 bolt EJ, just don't use the other 4 bolts...

Someone else will beable to further clarify, this is just what i've heard.

They all interchange regardless of bolt numbers(H6's included). They are up to 12bolts now I think, maybe 13.

Correct above. After 1998 was 8 bolt.
