Excellent post!

Very effective mod, I have done similar to other cars and can also vouch for the effectiveness.

Old Fozza's are the new L series. Cheap, effective and begging to be thrashed.

Oh yeah, it is a BG5A TT Auto drivetrain and the bonnet scoop is coming.

Not mine either, just wired it up.

what year TT is that?

how hard would you rate the wiring job on Al's scale of difficulty

spliced into the front loom or replaced teh front loom with the TT one?

very cool conversion

It a 96 according to the select monitor.

The wiring is spliced, harness swaps are impractical IMO.

It is reasonably involved to rewire, mainly because of the way early TT's wiring is layed out(the harness goes out through all 4 wiring exit points and is 2 piece where it goes out into the drivers guard) and secondly because it is an auto with a seperate auto computer that also needs to be wired in.

It just takes time to pick your way through it. Took me ~2days including all the dash work and some mechanical stuff(timing belt was out 3 teeth).
I have all the relevant text and have done it many times though.

I think you need a TT in your wagon Vv.

They are becoming more affordable (read expendable) as the years roll on, the early Liberty's are still cheaper but the Foresters day in the sun is fast approaching. They already come with a D/R box with a reasonable low range in manual form and if you are careful with a turbo EJ it should last the distance.

Where are all these cheap fozza's?What the cost to repower?I've found outbacks of the same age and km cheaper than a fozza. Why do foz owners complain of lack of power in the auto's?

Dunno about that one, Andrew B in Mt Gambier whinges about his foz too, I had the 2L auto liberty and had no issues with the power, sure it was only 92kw but I knew that I guess and didn't 'expect' more...

Early Fozza's have a different engine to the MY99's. It is a plastic manifolded, cheap ecu'd version of an early 2.0 impreza. The MY99 engine is much better.
97/8's are slow, most notably in auto form.

Early Fozza's are cheap, not $500 cheap but still cheap. They should be around the price of outbacks in gen 2 but a lot cheaper than gen 3 outbacks.

Suby Wan - I helped a mate build up an 01 GT Foz(he used to own the EJ25 L series) and we ditched the auto and fitted a ~97 NA Foz dual range. It has a 3" zorst, TDO4 and 14psi and it is pretty quick. The box and HD clutch seem perfectly happy with the power. It is the driver who breaks the boxes in these things not the power in most cases.

Probabily something to do with having an auto (can = slush box)... i'd be interested to see what they're like when swapped with a manual, in my experience a car has always increased performance with a manual (this is with older cars though, newer ones may be different i'd imagine).

Plastic manifolded? That sounds pretty crazy, i'm surprised anyone would consider doing this, then again, i've always taken for granted that the manifold had to be metal of some sort - never thought about a plastic manifold.

The reason i asked is that i've heard of forester's running out of power up a steep hill when using the autobox, much like a L series.Your slushbox statement is pretty common one and i agree in a L is correct however i currently run a ej22[supposedly the the same kw as ej20 in forester]and a 4eat[auto] in a L series .It has heeps of power and can pretty much idle its way up a steep hill[ask daza].I don't mind the forester's and would like to purchase one so some day it will step into the L shoes, but i don't want to go thru the same lack of power b/s i went thru with the L.Yes it has to be auto.

An EJ22 has a lot more power and torque throughout the rev range then a Foz EJ20. They are pretty much the worst 2.0 engine subaru have done. EJ22's on the other hand are arguably the best NA 4 they have made.

Lol at L blind love. :D
