What about doing the US style stubby rear end to increase the departure angle? It would look a little like Subarino's hatch rear but with four doors...

Close, but chop the rear off, remove half a foot (or what ever takes your fancy) and weld the original rear back in to create a stubby tail...

that pick looks sweet, a little odd but i think it would defenately grow on me, that idea would work too, but i think there'd be more work in it than a stubby tail job...

Oh yeah that looks much more natural than mine...would be double the work though cause theres two massive cut/shut jobs instead of one.
Mine does look pretty silly though with the long rear end :)

Maybe I'll play around when I get a welder. Can pick up old wagons for next to nothing anyways.

I was seriouly looking into building a hatch before i found mine... was basically going to be a bob-tailed brumby with a fibreglass canopy shaped more like a hatch.

I reckon 2 wagons and you could do it... hardest part would be the little fiddly things, but i guess if you were to do this it would all be a custom job anyway. I would be a very interesting project and a unique one at that!
