Lift Problems
Lift Problems
Hi all
I have just fitted a 2in lift kit on my gen1 wgn,i have also fitted new rear outback struts and raised springs,NOTE :THEY DON'T FIT!!!,the lower spring plate is 10mm wider than gen1 which means that they rub on the body on the inside.
What i want to know is if the gen2 outback rear trailing arms are longer than gen1's and by how much?
Also do they kick out more than the gen1's to give more camber?(to hopefully clear the body)
Last question, what happens with the rear sway bar?
I don't have any lift blocks for it,should i get some or extend the link arms to the trailing arms to suit?
Sorry about the ranting.
Chris

i got the same issue with mine....i just rotate the lift block to suit....so the offset was further from the body...however....im fairly sure this pus a slight pos camber on my rear wheels
and i left the sway bar off...should b able to get bars made fairly cheap....i would reccomend it....my car is rather floaty without the rear swaybar

mate these are all problems that are easily solved
strut rubbing on body:
ensure you have your lift kit strut top spacers orientated correctly.
take to the inner wheel well with a lump hammer and make some room.
you dont want outback trailing arms. you want outback trailing arm mounts, yes hte part you describe wiht 3 bolts. they are 30mm tallerand move your wheel back about 8mm. While your there hammer the lip at teh front of the wheel arch forward with a block of timber, i knocked mine in about 10mm some people hammer it out of the way alltogether.
no outback trailing arms wont help with your camber. Get a wheel alignment done by someone who understands subaru lift kits, you will be amazed the difference. You have put your entire suspension out of alignment by fitting the kit.
rear sway bar: make some extended links. mine are 3" longer and work well with a similar lift to what you have described.
DONT rotate the strut top as devil described to clear the strut from the inner wheel well. This will mean your rear suspension will be way out of spec.
as for a supplier for outback trailing arm mounts, subaru do them brand new for aroud $60 a pair. I got mine for $50 from sunspares

i thought as much....2 new lift blocks are being made to fix the problem....the lift kit i got was rather poorly constructed....all the top bolts where pointed out a fair way and all out of whack
