take the cv out you dont need it as the car is in front wheel drive when you drive down the road, you just wont be able to use 4wd,

and no you can not use the front cv because the rear cv's have 2 female cups not 1 femal and one male

4Muff, it's the rear that's gone not the front, so as shultzie mentions, just take out the whole rear drive shaft with the buggered CV (actually the rear is technically a double offset joint DOJ, not CV), and leave in 2WD mode to get you around.

They should have also added that the rear cv’s are simple to get in and out compared to the rear – just knock out the roll pins in the cv, undo the suspension drop the rear trailing arm and drop the cv off the stubs. First time doing the job should take a few hours work max.

Note - roll pins come out much easier with the correct roll pin puntch/tool you can use ground down screw driver but the tool make it easier in my experience.
Toyota 105 Series LandCruiser (that nobody on here wants to really hear about).
RX Touring Wagon - fitted out for 4WDing (currently collecting dust).
RX Project - will be road only at this stage (and currently taking way to long to finish).

Milla if you give me a carton I'll give you an entire replacement rear shaft with two good CV's in it.
(I got the last few spares for free off various people anyways!)

I cant come over and fit it till *mayby* Sunday arvo after the camp trip (no time before then, Im a busy boy). But I could leave it out the front of my house if you want to come pick it up. Mabey Dave can chuck it in for you, its quite litterally a 60 second job - unless your stub axels are abit rusty then it can take abit longer and might need the help of a mallet!
For now if I was you I'd definitely slide under there, pop the pines out and try and remove the axel. Just drive in 2wd until you can replace it which you would be on the road anyway.
