The turbo EJ's have a stack of bottom end torque for what they are, sure they're no 6.5 Chevy Diesel but they're pretty good in a low rev, high throttle condition. Saying they don't move until 2500rpm is stupid and unfounded. 2500rpm is nearly where a stock EJ20G will hit full boost. Remember too that a turbocharger doesn't have to be producing positive manifold pressure to be increasing the HP of an engine, driving a turbo car with a boost gauge will show you this. I would say you can feel the torque rise in a stock EJ20G at around 1400rpm.
EJ20G offroaders rule. So do EJ20G onroaders, provided they're nice and light

Your wagon isn't a coupe but really my coupe still hammered with a few mates in the car. The extra 100-150kg's won't make a world of difference really.KERAZY wrote:my wagon isn't a coupe.
changing over struts to liberty ones would be the same price as lifting 3", no?
The liberty strut conversion is significantly more involved than a 3" lift kit. The sensible option nowadays is to go with the bratgeebah kit, he offers a whole car solution complete with master cylinder upgrades and exchange components. If you want to tackle it on your own you'll probably feel left in the cold more than once, very few people have actually done the swap on their own and even less will be willing to answer questions you might have.
Remember if you lift it you still have the 5 stud option later on.
And there's something else that should be noted too. Some of you may be wondering why I haven't got my EJ20G offroader working yet. Half of it is because I've been slack and I've had a lot of stuff going on, the other half is due to the fact that the plumbing for these motors is significantly changed with the addition of a lift kit. I've had my coupe's radiator further modified and there's no sensible way a TMIC will fit. I am also changing a few flaws the old coupe had, but thats beside the point.

i had a talk with my cousin this evening. he's kept his brumby street, he's still got his white 4-stud steelies, he bought his with the EJ20 already in it. before he started modding he gave me a ride in it. How that turned out can be shown in the equasion below:
EJ20G + AWD + Rev Limiter = Necessity for tissues.
My argument is this. It's getting harder and harder to be different in the world of cars, and indeed society. I've never seen a street MY EJ20G wagon, they're all lifted. Thats why I'm leaning that way.... BUT, let me ask this:
how easy/hard is it to convert from street (completely standard just with lowered hard springs) to lifted say 2" all round? Does lifting only involve the struts, springs and CV shafts (longer)? in other words, can I have both? It's not entirely a crazy idea, is it?
edit: his brumby runs low 12's high 11's now. It's orange.

true? some douchebag on boostcruising.com said otherwise.
well... I might actually see if a dude wants to sell the one thats in the yard next to me. I hate the guy, and I've been in a couple fights with him... but money prevails.
ah, adolescence.
anyway, assuming he says 'no, you prick', I could EJ20G-ify my car, and when I wanted, I could just change over rims/tyres and suspension... is that right?
oh.. no wait exhaust problems. bugger. well, could have an extra complete exhaust set, one suited for lifted, one for lowered? that right?
edit: tim, you finished yet? hurry up and come show me a proper 4x4
sorry for all the questions, but I keep getting the urge to rip off my L-plates and sting it out to SECWA
, I'm just worried I'll have to compomise the urge to rip it through mud and gravel with the urge to have a bit of a play at the lights, while still maintaining enough power to be safe on the road (and get me out of the shit when I need it, let me pass quicker etc.). I'm a good boy, honest.
