Engine blocks - non impact, whats it mean

Post by Smokey » Thu Aug 31, 2006 9:16 pm

Hey all,

I have heard that the EA82 is a "non impact engine". But what exactly does that mean?

All Subaru timing belts are rubber right, so all engines I would think are non impact if it has something to do with the cams being able to run/turn out of sinc w each other.

In a conventional if the timing belt/chain breaks, its a real big deal hey?

So how does it all work?

Cheers,

Smokey

valves don't hit the piston if the belt breaks .have heard you can limp home as long as the belt on the dist isn't the broken one.couldn't imagine it to be much fun though.

the correct term is non interference and there are only two ea82 and ej22 till 97 all the rest that have timing belts lunch valves when they break the exception is the early ej20t engines there are cases where the engine survived
