Wow look at the price of that RX!!!!!! You need to put your collection up on the web somewhere KiwiL!! :)
Could take some time, I have over 4000 photos... Not all off TradeMe, they're from all over including a lot from this site.

Here's one of the quad-carb engine, I think.

It does look like a quad-carb setup. Pretty nuts. Be a b!tch to tune. Asking price was $5000 at the time! God I wish I had been a couple of years older and/or had some money back then so I could actually have bought it...
Also, there's an NZTA certification plate on the drivers' side firewall, indicating this was probably registered and legal with the engine swap and coilovers.

Genuine 80s rally coilovers by the looks of things

Paint in pretty average nick.

Here's the NZ carjam report for that RX with the rally engine. http://www.carjam.co.nz/car/?plate=le7243
Judging by the jump in kms I'd guess that was when the engine swap was done.

*Edit - I just realised that the TradeMe ad is still up. Link is here: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =693950113

Listing text:
Extremely Rare.
1983 Group A Subaru RX Coupe.
Twin Webber Carbs, 4 Port head Model.
Close Ratio Gear Box.
LSD.
Adjustable factory suspension.
Extensive History, 1986 & 87 International rallies.
Lots of hillclimb class records.
All the running gear from original rally car now a road going RX coupe which has not been used in Motor Sport.
Sister car to Possum's Original Subaru Rally car.

The carbs appear to be Weber IDFs. http://www.clutchkitcenter.com/media/im ... 0IDF-2.jpg

Could be an idea for Silverbullet, whip a couple of IDFs onto his EA81S... That would go well!

Those pics are the best detail I have ever seen of the Safari set-up. Thankyou Mr KiwiL for sharing It reveals that it is not just a pair of webers slapped on either a std or twin port head - it is a true 4 port head. Now, if Weber were kind enough to make some improved copies to avoid copyright they would sell more webers.

As much as I love the GLF's, at $15k it's half the price of a very good V5 coupe, and so too much to justify I'm afraid.

Plenty of twin carby engines lying around in Australia (although not safari setup) if you know where to look. Unfortunately a large percentage of them have been stuck interstate in various stages of promised and paid for rebuild for the last two years along with all my various sets of twin carbs that are currently lying interstate where I can't do anything with them. I keep booking holidays to go and install one such engine into my Subaru however the rebuild finish date keeps being pushed back. Otherwise I'd have some closeup shots of my own.

:) watched it twice. Sits nice and low as well, none of that genuine camber either from the look of it. It would be a pig of a road/tarmac car.

And, weren't they the days when rally organisers did not need to rent Coates supply of barriers. I can recall rallys where keen photographers lay on the edge of the cattle grid jump waiting for a bit of air. Sadly a girl spectator V rally car died in the same spot a few years later. Place is covered in streets and housing now !

Ha - Like the commenter saying it couldn't get round the last corner because of 4WD, more likely because it had no rear hand brake back in those days ... ;)

Love the short clip though ... :)

Cheers, Bantum ...

The good old days of real racing!

Great video, makes me think of the flight of the concords with their New Zealander Manager... Love that accent!

Sorry Rhys but just letting you know that the wing nut on the air cleaner lid does not connect to the carby/s. There is separate wing nuts inside the air cleaner but you're correct in saying that the 2 top wing nuts indicate twin carb EA81S engine :)

4 port?? surely it's meant to be dual port? as these just use the EA81S heads and are modified to fit the IDFs

Safari heads I've seen you could see the 2 centre top head studs and nuts.
Image

This head has the casting for the holes but they haven't been drilled.
Image

I'm guessing it has shorter studs in those spots and they sit on the other side of the carbs like this what looks like an EA63 head that has the adapter welded.
Image

It's still for sale perhaps someone should give him a call and ask for more pics

anyone noticed the firing order in the casting of the head with the blue goop?

Never seen a firing order cast into Subaru stuff before !!

Shortened head studs that used the cut end on the outside to rust to give the game away as to what had been done !

All my EA63 engines have the firing order on the heads.
