L Series GLA and GLR models 4WD sedans

Post by steptoe » Sun Mar 09, 2014 8:42 am

Everyone knows the L Series RX , some know of the GLTA the slushbox luxo version of the RX that came with EA82T 3 speed (then later AWD E4AT) switchable FWD/4WD, plush carpet, air suspension that could gain another 30mm ? below 80kph.

I've owned a second GLTA shell, seen another with turbo engine snaffled and replaced with a carby EA82 and seen a factory 4WD sedan carby and that is it.

According to ADR sheets
http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/rvd-pre1999/d ... /11195.pdf

there was a GLA was single range 4WD auto only, PS and SR (sun :) roof) as standard and the GLR 5 speed PS and optional sunroof with VIN differences, 4WD non turbo sedans!

Mention of optional mags or "Sunraysia" white spoke alloys

GLR was 30 kegs lighter

Anyone ever have one ?

There is a 5 speed 4wd Leone sedanon Gumtree ATM...

Several years ago I spotted a Automatic version locally (with boot spoiler), probably long dead...

They were never really popular as the price was too much for most people in the late 1980s. For a Subaru at least!

I should have added that I have only ever seen one Leone sedan fitted with a sunroof in person. 2wd only but it had all the options - Power steering, air con, folding rear seats. I think this was all packaged together back in the day and sold for $800 or so on the manual versions, may have been standard on the Autos.

Add power windows and that sunroof and it would have been one $$$$$ Subie!
