Ute wont start :-(

Post by scriptchip » Sun Sep 16, 2012 9:13 pm

Recently my ute was jump started as the battery was shot, after this it was sitting for a good month or so, i bought a new battery (same specs as in manual) but for some reason i have no power to ign barrel. Ive tested battery and connections. everything works including the head lights
My ign barrel was a bit dicky too start with , could i bypass the barrel for now?

any information is valuable.

You could bypass the barrel, but I'm not going to tell you how to on a public forum...

I'd also look into the fusible links, one could be fried.

All the best with it.

Fusable links under the bonnet near battery.
If the barrell has a bad contact it can be fixed by removing the switch mechanism, it is held in to the back of the barrel with one philips head screw.
Spray CRC 226 into the mechanism and rotate the switch back and forth gently with a blade screwdriver. when you refit the switch make sure it is in the same orentation position as the barrell.

Dodgy fusible links gave me the idea I had a bad ign barrel switch so swapped it over and fixed for half a day :) . At 11pm in FFREEEZING conditions it let me down. A red wire clipped from battery to pos side of coil and a push start with ignition in on position saved me ute.

Bennie, if you youtube how to pick a Lockwood padlock and get some good lessons on how to , and make the tools needed, I am sure there is a youtube of how to hotwire a Brumby - great secrets of the world are no longer.

It seems to be trouble at age 23, was for mine and my GLTA at same age

With the ignition on start, try the starter motor screw driver trick if the engine starts you have either a faulty ignition barrel, fuse / fusable link or wiring to the barrel. If it doesn't crank then look at the starter motor as a possible problem.
