at 130km mine used to resonate big time. unis would wear quickly as well ( I never saw more than 15k between changes.) shaft was 3.5" dia.

tim,

L series is 12" longer than MY. part of the reason it is a two peice item

The distance between the rear output stub on the gearbox and the diff flange (ie length of tailshaft) does NOT have 12" of difference between MY and L.
If it does, then can someone explain why these people running L series 5 speeds in their MY's use the stock L series tailshaft with the only mod being to add bearing carrier mounts?

I too ran a one piece tail shaft behind an EJ18 with LSeries 5 speed in an MY and we did about 25 thousand k's with that shaft , top speed was about 170 kph.

I should add that although it's shaft is 20mm shorter than Mike's wagon's one and my wagon's one, the coupe has sat at ~242km/h for a minute or so next to a GTR with a 320km/h speedo.

was the shaft modified
if so were the uni's orintated the same on both ends

missalingment of uni joints ie. having one end rotated 45degrees out on one end will cause stress on tailshafts and cause them to snap.
so will having differant angles on the gear box and diff ends of the shaft

nah I had it rebuilt locally by a driveshaft shop in archerfield. everything was correct according to them. used to resonate after 130Kmh. the original snapped in half and took out two stub axles and a set of tyres. this was also a single piece item.
