Has the state clubs and forum members of each state ever thought of puttng a car together , E.g. Gen 2 wagon. to give to a needy person. One in each state. E.g . i know of a woman who her partner left her and she has 5 kids. He took the only car they had. So now she is left on a block of land ( rented ) on the out skirts of brisbane , with 5 kids , and no transport. She needs to get kids to school. shopping , medical, pay rent, etc. I see alot of money spent on cars on this forum . Including me. Just wondering if any one has ever thought of pooling donations from members from each state and doing the above.

Just a thought.

What an excellent idea!!!
it could be done pretty cheap to as there would be no mods needed.
Defiantly worth doing!
If S.A. Do a car il pitch in and help.
It would Probebly be best if it was a family car, ( wagon ).

A good thought ... I don't believe it would be that hard for each state to organise or find a needy person for the car.

Just need members willing to donate time/funds/abilities or even a car.

a good project for those mens sheds opening up around the place, combined with help from the scrap metal companies crushing cars because they run on leaded or no longer wanted !

Would be nice if the cars could be donated.
My first thought for people who might benefit are our own members on this forum who are less fortunate. Am I right in thinking that some have terminal illnesses? Those families could really benifit. Or we could find a charity like Ronald McDonald house who know families that could benifit.

That is what made think it was possible.How many times has you seen a parting out add on here. And a shed clean out add. Also how many times have you seen a statement saying , It going to the dump if no one wonts it . There is a sign there are plenty of parts, car shells , motors, gearboxs etc. Now it is just the orginizing part left. And to see how each state club is will to be community helpful and to see how much the forum members are willing to put the money where there mouth is. But the idea is only just a thought.

Hey Bennie,

Even thought about that. The people that cant help with parts or help by givin a hand, can always donate some dollars. The clubs can hold it and once the car is finished , the dollars the club is holding can do the on road costs. But in the long run , it only a thought.

This sounds like a great idea. I am sure the ausubaru community would get onboard.

This type of project though always lives or dies with a core group of two or three willing to see it through on their own if need be. As you said, organising is the hard/long part.

Ideally someone would need space (someone with a farm and the corner of a shed?), then it wouldn't matter if it took a year to slowly put a car together with parts posted in from 'round the country.

For an alternate plan - build a classic offroad subi (i'm thinking EJed brumby, lift, disk brakes, big wheels, best franken-gearbox doable, etc) and then raffle it for a charity.

Make it cool enough and you sell a lot of tickets if you took such a car to some of the 4wd shows and events.

The prob i can see with a frankenbrumby is , more costly parts. With a basicly standard gen2 wagon ( clean and tidy, may be a set of after market wheels , some one may have in shed. Or a set of wheels off another model that looks good on the car ) , the parts are easy to find. Eg, car part outs and shed clean outs.

Yeah, I was getting a little carried away. And for the originally suggested plan of supplying a car to a needy person, the most stock reliable, efficient car that could be built the better.

I reckon an L-Series wagon more so than a brumby, would be a good family car for someone. If most people on here put in $20(x40 people plus donated parts) something could be put together quite easily (stock form but reliable) and we could do just one car from the forum for a charity in Aus, rather than each state. Just to begin with..

It would be nice of we approached subareck and see if they would like to get involved.
Maybe donate a car or to towards the cause, and we could give him a good name to the charity or anyone involved. ( may be media publicity )
Maybe even eblen's or Jarvis Subaru?
We just need one person per group or state to run it.

I reckon if we let Subaru Australia know they would help/sponser. Since we are a Subaru forum and if we were dedicated to do this.

As the heading says, it only a thought. Idea's are great , but idea's are only good if they are followed up on.
One lot of people i have seen post about this ,But may be wrong , is , state club chiefs.

A very noble thought indeed, there are plenty of good cars come up at pickles like the Gen 2 sedan with 144k on the clock that'll probably go for about $400, cost another $400 in parts (possible wrecker donations and another $400 to get on the road with 6 months rego, the last thing you want to be handing over is a dunger that'll last a week and cost more to run than it's worth.

Biggest problem is out of the thousands of eligible people is who do you give it to and then is she going to sell it the next week to get her bills paid or her next fix.

A very quick $3000 profit in this one but it's the sort of thing you'd need to be looking at in my view, low K's and not too old, maybe rego not handed over for 6 months so it can't be disposed of.

And of course can they afford insurance????

I was wondering how long it was going to take for the What If's to show. What if some one won lotto and blew it and was back in the unemployment line in 12 months. What would you think. Suck eggs. What should be done if someone puts together a capable car and always gets it bogged. Should the car be taken off them. It simple . If this thought turns into some thing, and then is wasted. It is the lose for the person it was givin to. the people that put it together still did the right thing. It comes down to , You cant help some one , if there not willing to help themselves. A good example is , Do you donate blood. We guess what, that blood could be going to a gay person, a homeless person, or one off the minority's you dont like. But do you stop giving blood. If you did, it could be your son or daughter or future son or daughter that may need it and wont get it.
If we ( the subie boys ) thought about the what if's, with all the people we have helped over the years. The write ups, the people that have come here and had work done. If we thought of the what if's , Eg, we could help some one and then go right there car off. What was the point of helping them.
Have people forgoten about the feeling of a job well done , Have people forgoten about helping a fellow person. I thought this forum was here to help other people . May be i was wrong, since i see alot of views , but not to many people will to stick there hand up.

But in the long run, it only a thought.
