Going rate for Clutch plate rear LSDs?

Post by raynman » Tue Dec 13, 2011 4:13 pm

Been a while since I looked, but what would be the going rate for a rear clutch plate LSD from an RX turbo?

They also came from early (pre-98 ) WRXs/STIs. I got a WRX CLSD centre for about $450 or 400, not sure what complete diffs go for.

If you are looking at selling one I will give you 50 dollars for it :) before Guy does.

seriously though the range from 200 -500 dollars, if you can find one.

TOONGA
:twisted::mrgreen:Lol

I've heard of a guy on here buying one from a pick a part place for $50 as the yard owner had no idea. I know off another lucky bugger buying one for $100...

I bought mine for $450!!! Most expensive dam part i ever bought:p and its been sitting in the safe for about a year now:( Waiting for it to appreciate:D Lol nan waiting till i get a gearbox built with matching ratio:p

You can get lucky but most of the time you will pay $$$ if you ever find one for sale. As venom said, it would be easier to buy a WRX one.

Wow Guyph! Looking at your subi that means you've been doing a lot of penny pinching when buying your parts!!

Seriously, you can replace the CLSD centre into your current rear diff - read up on it! AndrewT's done a write up here somewhere about it. Worth the effort depending on how far away your gearbox build is..

Cheers

If you do get an early WRX LSD then try to get the matching inner CVs for the rear driveshaft. They're different to anything else and i couldn't find a single CV joint company that knew what they were or where to get them. I ended up getting second hand ones, handy to know they're also the same shafts for the pre-98 viscous LSDs too.

Early WRX (upto 97) and RS Liberty ones have the VLSD diffs, both of which had the external shafts for the CV joint. Later WRX ones have the internal CV splined diffs that required the matching CV joints.

To answer the OP question.. they are becoming harding to get so it's a sellers market. I would say that around $400 is the going price but remember you could pretty much buy the whole car for that... and you'd end up with rear disc brakes and parts to sell off.

Cool, asking as I have a 3.9 R160 RX turbo clutch pack, and don't have a car to put it in anymore - moved on to later model cars with the plug in shafts - and a guy was looking for one. turns out he wants a 3.7:1

Clearly he didn't know that the ratio can be easily swapped :rolleyes: AndyT has done a write up about it on the forum somewhere ;)
