Toyota - Subaru alliance
I know it's not new news, but I saw some pics of the concept Celica that will have a Subaru flat four motor, running the rear wheels. It look great! (in one of the UK car mags).
Subaru will bring out their version of the same car, with AWD and a few styling tweeks to make them look different. If it's half as sexy as the Celica, it should be great....
Celica is apparently being unveilled at one of the big Motor Shows (Frankfurt I think) soon.

Is that the same 2 door coupe that's being debated in another thread as being the ugly sister to the impreza?
I think its interesting that the two companies are sharing the same sort of platform to produce two different vehicles. I know other companies share platforms but AFAIK this is the first time for subaru, and possibily toyota...
Cheers

I know Toyota has great interest in Subaru... When GM ended their relationship with them, Toyota came in and purchase a good chunck of shares (I reckon they own about 30%, but I might be wrong...)El_Freddo wrote:I think its interesting that the two companies are sharing the same sort of platform to produce two different vehicles. Toyota has shared a few platforms in the past with GM in the US and currently in Europe with the PSA Group (Peugeot/Citroen). Check here:

Yeah yad think that they would mid mount the engine, and use a Subaru FWD transmission to power the rear wheels
The two cars might share the same platform (suspension, drivelive, engine, suspension) but the bodies will look completely different.
Holden Commodore/ Toyota Lexcen badgeswapping is not a good example of the Toyota/ Coupe. A better example is the GC Impreza and SF Forester, which were built off the same platform, but with different body shapes
