Some of us may have our engine numbers recorded on rego papers as simply a number. Some may have the engine prefix such as EA82 included.
Some time ago an authorised inspector mate was under RTA audit and was chastised for using EA82 at the beginning of the engine number in his paperwork.
The 'authorities' of two states now rejecting applications unless the EA82, EJ20, EJ25 prefix appears with the engine number.
Federally sourced vehicle data sheets specify the engine number is such, numbers, and gives an example of what needs to be found. In the case of most subes it is just the numbers, six of them in EA82 cases .
It seems that individual states are demanding the prefix to detect out ogf the ordinary things like EJ in an MY or L Series or possibly that with so many Subies around now, six digit engine numbers may cause data matching hassles.
't be nice if they issued vehicle inspector bulletins than bite peoples heads off !
