What is happening around my place

Post by Outback bloke » Sat Apr 16, 2011 9:04 am

Been a long time since I have posted but I haven't lost any of the enthusiasm for the Subies. We still have a stack of them in the yard. At the moment we have a lifted 2004 Outback 2.5, (soon to be lifted) 2003 H6 Outback, standard 2000 2.5 Outback, 1999 Liberty sedan, 1996 GTB sedan, lifted 1992 Sedan and as of yesterday a 2003 GT Liberty wagon.

I picked the GT up from the auctions with intentions of using the running gear in the 04 Outback. I'm still going to do so but I will be on the hunt for another one to use as a donor to repair this one. Then I'll have two of them :D

I cut all the bent crap off the front of it yesterday and had my first test drive of it an hour after getting home. Really has me beat why it was written off in the first place. The sub-frame is bent in front of the cross member but is going to be easy enough to repair once I get a donor to cut up.

Here is a few pics of the new GT.

an awful lot of repairable write-offs you shakes ya head as to why, especially when read RTA report on panel damge that you can pull out with a suction handle or dry out the mats.

Suparoo, the car cost me $4100 at auction. Then fees and trailer hire to get it home has it owing me just over $4500.

steptoe, I am guessing the assessor looked under the bonnet on this and saw the battery jammed up against the motor and presumed it had damaged the cam gear and therefore the valves. It is the only reason I can think why they have written it off.

Frog, As far as I am aware the written off vehicles laws haven't changed a great deal since I did the last one a few years back. Am about to send you a PM with the VIN number for it. I am needing a new oil filler neck and a passenger side timing cover.

The conversion is done now except for a few fiddly things. I managed to break one of the variable cam solenoid plugs while removing the motor. Thanks to Frog we have the part worked out and it now he is just trying to find one for me.

The only thing that has me thinking now is the cruise light continually flashes. I am hoping that once I have fitted the new cam timing valve the engine light will go out and the cruise will be happy.

Now I am on the hunt for a bonnet that won't break the budget.
