I'm about to head off on a moderate size trip and was just checking levels.

The overflow container is down to the 'low' mark. Can I just add extra coolant there without changing anything else in the system?

Yes, that's basically how you keep your radiator topped up but always remember to check that at the same time.

Yeah.. like Tom said, just top it up from the overflow bottle but always check that the Rad is full too. Also a good practice is not to mix coolants, so best to check what was used when replaced last time and top up with the same.
