I hate Rust!

Post by subaruby » Wed Apr 20, 2011 8:34 pm

Decided I might try and repair what I thought was a small area of rust below the rear windscreen.
After removing the windscreen I realised it was a bit worse than I thought.

So I got to it with the angle grinder and removed it as best I could, then hit it with the rust converter. The next step is to fibreglass up the holes.

Will have more pics later.

Aw bugger mate!

Shame you can't get it re-welded! I would happily donate a door to the cause, but I'm not sure about its condition. I'll keep an eye out next time I'm in the yards, could be a while now that I'm leaving for hotham next week.

And on a side note, i've sorted pics and videos for you - got a few gig that won't fit on all the memory sticks I've got (its on my external hard drive), trying to find a smallish device to fit it on and send your way ;) Bear with me - you've lasted this long (and I haven't forgotten!)

Cheers

Dont have the skills for welding but done some fibreglassing so happy to do it that way. Won't be the neatest but will do the job and stop it getting worse. Maybe here will be a full car respray in 5 years??

Let me know when you have a new address and I will send you some memory sticks. I can wait a little longer.

just a litttle 'glass on your holes, then the rest of the rusty no holey bits - hit it with the epoxy paint like hammertone type paint. Did my Brumby 12 years ago and after seven years inspected it when windscreen came out - it has stopped rust in its tracks !! Looks like the day I painted it :)

After you have filed or ground it back, dont touch the bare surface with your fingers, they will leave oil residue and the paint wont stick properly, should use gloves if working on raw surfaces and try and get a paint/primer on there asap.
