L Sedan towbar ratings ??

Post by steptoe » Fri Apr 08, 2011 12:17 am

No mention in index of an L Series owner manual of towing ...at all !! Only towing mentioned I found relates to being towed - what? A Subaru need towing ??

My L Sedan has a Subie branded towbar off NNcoolg's sedan now in Gannons hands. It bolts to the tow hooks underneath and has a pair of pretty light weight straps that bolt to the back of the boot apron - only just got nuts on without washers due to some issue.

Wondering if sedan has a lower tow spec than the L Wagons. I know my Brumby has its tow bar well mounted and could pull to its limit but suspect my sedan may not be as highly rated for towing. I need to make up some nut washers to suit the fitment situation, like make big hole in bigger washer to sink nut bottom flush and weld.

Any1 with an L with towbar with specs still visible (as if) info would be great

It has been a while but thought I would answer this question anyway...

Just checked the Hayman Reese towbar on my RX and the maximum towing weight is 1000kg, however it also states to check the owners manual.
Old Boxer Tricks
1980 Brumby
1978 4WD Station Wagon
1974 DL Sedan
1974 GSR Coupe

A lot of people get caught on that.

The rating on the towbar has absolutely nothing to do with the towing capacity of the vehicle. It only states the towing capacity of the towbar.

Generally, the un-braked towing capacity of a passenger vehicle is the GVM minus the Tare Weight.
