Hey guys, sorry to 'newb' up your forum, however im looking into buying Subaru 2003 WRX (looking to spend around $18000) and just wanting so basic information.
This is gunna sound stupid, but why do people with nice subaru turbos sell them and buy v6 or v8s?
How reliable are turbo'd subaru's? Just in comparrision to owning a same year commodore...just heard that maintenance is really expensive?
How much does servicing cost and how regular is servicing?
Any information about purchasing a subaru would be greatly appreciated..Thanks alot for your time.

Servicing and reliability are closely linked in a turbo car - there are many cars running original turbo motors well into the 200K - mine is almost 280K and still makes enough power to chop Commodores!
Service intervals will be more often, but you will have more fun in a WRX. But when things go wrong - thinking AFM, turbos and the like can be expensive, but there are plenty of spares about. Being Japaneses, as a *general* rule, they are pretty intuitive to repair, albeit fiddly. Also plenty of experience on this site and RSLC as well.
There are many owners of turbo cars on here and all will vouch for the subaru turbo power to fun ratio as well.
Overall reliability for Subarus is much better the the Commodore, but remember, you are buying a inter-cooled, turbo charged AWD sportscar, not a taxi.
Just have it checked out by someone who knows subarus.

Maybe the people selling have had too much fun and got booked just once too many times.
Wanna compare Oz cars to Japanese? Oz manufacturers are legislated to supply parts for five years. I have gone to Subaru many times for a part for my 1986 turbo sedan (not well known as 4GLTA, the softer auto 4WD turbo version of the first RX sold in Oz) been told the part is not in stock in Oz but needs to come from the mother land. Takes only ten days for a quality part for a 25 year old car to arrive at what I see as reasonable cost.
You wanna service a turbo donk a little more responsibly than some do their Falcadore, good oil more often.Learn to do it yourself and save a bit to put toward the time if ever you need to take it to a mech a nic
