1999 Subaru Outback Security System

Post by S~Eddy » Mon Apr 11, 2011 8:53 pm

Hey Guys,

It would be a great help if you could tell me if this is a fault.

On my 1999 Subaru Outback, If I were to lock the door using the keyless entry remote. Then proceed to unlock the car with my mechanical key, then open the door, the alarm goes off (without a horn or sound). The indicators just flash until a response from the keyless remote. The ignition will not respond at all while this alarm has gone off. What should the car do? I had the door lock fixed recently and would like to know if this has been completed properly or needs to be taken back The person who fixed assures me that there is no fault, but I am not convinced.

Cheers for helping!

sounds like your car has an aftermarket alarm, my old car would do exactly the same thing. Because the alarm detects an intrusion (the door opening) while its armed...
I think this is normal

I'm not sure, as if it was an Aftermarket alarm, I would assume there would be some sort of Siren or Alarm. This just turns the ignition off and flashes the indicators. The handbook suggests that the Keyless entry was an option in some cars (not the outback) with the same security system. This makes me suspect that when the bloke fixed the door lock, he didn't hook it back into the security system, it all got too hard and just turned the siren alarm off.
