Sheesh, well done there on 55 litre tank, now you may need to replace the fuel filter incase it got a severe dose of crud in its last sip !

Well you can't get more "scientific" than a cluster full of red lights and tyre only noise !

I don't think my tank can possibly be 55L because I dumped close to 11 litres in , drove 16 Km home and put 55L in it the following day (Friday) .
Provided I'm going to drive 10 Km or so when I fill it up I really fill it up . This means right to the kneck then rock the body till the air gurgles out and fill to the neck again .
Don't do this if your not going any distance as it can expand and leak .

After this tank full goes through I'll remove the filter and drain its entry side into a clear container to see whats in it because this filter is not that old .
I peeled open the previous filter and found a few flecks of metallic material , possibly tank corrosion , but nothing serious .
I've had this car very low on fuel quite a few times before and it was interesting to see where rock bottom is .

Well , another tank of guzzaline down the hatch and with a very full tank of BP95 I squeezed 643.5 km out before the dash board Christmas tree spoilt the fun . LOL that last 3.5 kays was a bit painful but people here insist on scientific test methods and we go to the 3rd last drop .
I was so looking forward to cracking 650 but not to be I'm afraid , still a respectable result .
The only real difference drive wise was a 220 Km run south of Sydney to Albion Park and via Jamberoo to Carrington Falls and Robertson pie shop .
Along the way there was one of those 5km odo test sections and Ellie was right on the money at the 5th km marker .

There's still life in the poor old (nearly 25 yrs) Frankensteined RX Elle Series .

Cheers A .

Decided to take a drive down the south coast out of Sydney and went as far as Moruya and back . Trouble free trip of about 622 km . I was determined to push the fuel situation until Ellie died this time at 693.3 Km .
This is more than I ever imagined I'd get out of an L Series and proof that BP95 straight ULP works for me .

Cheers A .

Ala Hans Tholstrupp style driving at slow road speeds, using a vacuum gauge etc?
Wondering how many kilos of tools and spares you took, Coxy in nav seat (to add to the equation) ?

That is one helluva an effort. My EA82T tends to drink same or more on highway runs :(

No the emergency kit consisted of 10L of fresh water and I think there's a couple of open ended/ratchet ring spanniards and an electricians flat blade screwdriver in the glove box . Of course the std space saver pumped up hops round in the boot with an I think old Commodore scissor jack .
No Coxy was working so took the pilot/father in law who's travelled widely and lived down the coast .

Got some RFS training on so back in a while .

Ok , back from cutting doors windscreens and roof turrets of cars with hydraulic sheers and spreaders ...

No driving like grandma .
Left base at 0545 .
Quick look in Basin View a little after 8 (168 km usually takes solid 2.5 Hrs)
Breakfast Batemans a tad before 10 (I think 240ks south and ~ 80min from BV .
Scenic route with stops at most beaches and headlands from Batemans to I think its called Broulee Beach . At one stage we walked round a small beach to a rocky island to get the blood moving again .
Also a bit of a sticky around Moruya airfield and the town and had
a feed bag stop . We were at Moruya from about 1300-1345 .
Then back up the Princes hwy to South Nowra for another quick potty and cold drink stop 1425-45 .
Then mostly highway drive and landed back here at about 1715 (5.15) .

So overall 322km down and 300 back for a total of 622 km .

Later that evening went to Engadine and down to the loop road south of Waterfall and home via Kurnell just to use up every drop . I had the trusty fuel container on board so dumped its almost 12L into the MT tank and went and filled to the brim once more . It took ~ 51 3/4L which confirms my suspicions that an RX L will take 64-65L if its dry and you try really hard ...

I think I have almost three months until shes out of rego and more single weeks of leave coming up . I want to go further south and look around Bega Tathra and Candelo because my grandparents were from that area before they moved to Sydney back in 1939 .
I also want to do some exploring in northern Victoria and the on the NSW coast north of Taree .

A .
