EA82T specific dizzy cap screw problem

Post by steptoe » Sat Jan 15, 2011 1:46 pm

Think it is specific to the EA82T 3 plug dizzy cap, maybe mpfi also.

Currently misplaced my details of Bosch part number but:

Some months back I replaced all the tune up bits after loyal service life of 50,000km

Some weeks later I noticed a dead spot or hesitation just momentary, panicked (is it picnicked as well) as we do, parked it when I got home and left it there until I had time and motorvation to look for what i suspected to be the hard to find ignition module.

Six weeks of just sitting there, I decide to drive it to bring it on again.

It has remained same for 600km or more...

On flat roads it will scream as much as the next hot EA82T out to 6000rpm but get a slight load up a rise or worse , a hill or mountain, try and push things in high gears 4 or 5th and the low power hesitate is just there, back off to avoid backfire or other LPG associated disaster.

Feels like a coil pooing itself, but that too is rather new - 12 months ago it come out from China via Chermany I'd say :)

Got around to looking for it today, starting off with preparing for comp test, noticed dizzy cap was loose, as too the front securing screw. Measured stuff up to find the depth of hole for front screw is about 3.5mm before it his vac can fitting which I have renewed but find old is same and has no recess to allow cap screw down any further.

Cap screw needs 6 or 7 mm to get down tight on front screw, rear does not matter as it is straight through.

bottom line is:

Got screw out in M4, think it is not 0.7 or 0.75 pitch, maybe 0.8mm, cut the bastard down to size and come in here to post up details, have a break and go out and try the bugger.
