Subaru 2-Stroke V4

Post by subanator » Sat Apr 22, 2006 1:31 am

One from the archives, found this in an old mag at work.
While some of us were getting excited about 2 strokes in another post, it reminded me to post this one now.

Dont know of any specs, nothing comes up with Google.

It was found in 4Wheeler magazine (Autumn '92):
Image
'03 Forester X, stock standard for now.

'89 EA82T Touring Wagon, 5-speed D/R, 14" alloy wheels, bullbar. (Past ride)

'81 MY wagon, 3" lift, 5-speed D/R, Weber, 14x27" tyres. (Past ride)

Thanks for posting the article.

I love the quote about the Isuzu ceramic engine.
"High temperatures.........while ceramics have a tendancy to return to their original state - sand"

Wonder what temperature they would run at then!!!!

Reminded me of the 6-stroke engine I was reading about the other week. Can't remember if it was on here but it would be a way to get it running a lot cooler. http://www.damninteresting.com/?p=467

Now that's a COOL engine. Running so cold you can leave your hand on the block after an hours running.

I can confirm Toyota do run direct injection and intercoolers on 1HD-T (well now its actually called 1HD-FTE) motors in 100 series, 78's and 79's run no 'cooler.

Interesting to read about this "production ready" Subaru motor. Didn't seem to take the final step, never heard of a V4 getting out there. They probably backed out due to a similar reason that the article brought up - the "timing" belt being a heavily stressed item that would cause a catastrophe under failure. Having fitted an EJ20 turbo motor to a standard height vehicle, I have run into the problem of a motor sitting too tall. This puppy looks like its for lifted / tall vehicles only, and since the JDM buys road cars with low profile bonnets like Honda's and Lexii (plural Lexus :)) this form factor probably wouldn't suit the company's goals in that area. Unless it was destined for a vehicle like a Tribeca, Mr Fuji has obviously not followed through.

Pity :(

87 RX, EJ20G

89 Brumby, EA81

12 BRZ, FA20
