gearbox question

Post by jamesbissland » Fri Oct 15, 2010 9:10 pm

Hey all,

Just a quick question to those who are familiar with pulling gearboxes apart.
Is the crown wheel and pinion in an early 90's 2wd Leone/Omega's gearbox (with an EA82) the type that can be flipped to enable it to run 'backwards' so to speak?
Just thiking of an option for a rear engined off roader.
I know Legacy/WRX boxes cant be flipped

Many thanks in advance
James

In a word.. no :(

I'd just use a late model VW trans and a adaptor plate.. easy and parts available ;)

Not strong enough :???: what engine, overall weight and tyre size are you talking about here?

There is a kit available that replaces the factory Ring and Pinion gear so that the diff will run backwards from what I've read. You'd have to look for it on the net as I've not got anymore information than that. The only issue with this is the cost of buying the kit as I'm pretty sure its up near a grand to acquire it.
