Gas truts for MY tail gate

got 2x in MY wagon I'm wrecking. bought them new 3 years ago. They still hold the boot up. interested?

Most good auto parts stores can get them for you like Coventry & Repco.
The retail for some silly price like $75ea!!!

or you can get the old ones regassed/resealed for about 33 bucks each

Re-gassing is good cheep alternative, but give them 3 or 4 struts because normally the will blow 1 or 2 up when re-gassing them.......

i had really good luck then with the guy that does them here in hobart

i had a heap of sound deadening and 18mm mdf across the tailgate to strengthen it all for the sub loading off it, that thing weighed a bloody ton (probably an extra 20-30 kilos)

anyway the guy changed the valving inside the struts, re did the seals with something better than stock and gave them a bit of extra pressure too

this made the tailgate open really easily, but still came to a nice gentle rest at the top of its travel

I've got an L-Series Wagon...not sure I would trust the old ones to be re-gassed. Does anyone know of any non-Subaru struts that would fit? There are some Ford ones on e-bay for $30 a pair???

Have a look in the Max-Lift section of the catalogue at http://www.monroe.com.au. Find the specs of the Subaru struts, then find a more common car with similar specs.

Make sure the mounting points are right or changeable.

I scored a set of re-gassed struts off a pick a part subi that I reckon have had the same treatment as you've done bluesteel - the first time I went to open the rear tailgate it almost knocked me flat when it came up on its own accord, no need to help lift it up anymore! Brilliant!
