It is a recent development, not sure of exact date but goes back to 2007 at least.

We have a 1999 Camry that is also within 1kmh below real speed, but a 2005 Falcon Ute reads about 8kmh below real speed at a displayed speed of 110. I just purchased a 2001 323 for my parents and that too is accurate.

It is a Industry wide con so manufacturers can change tyres/wheels etc and move cars around the world without having to comply with strict callibration regulations.

It is annoying because we purchased the Sat Nav in order not to have windscreen cluttered by a GPS only to have to have one as the Sat Nav will not display speed.

Subaru are taking full responsibly for this as they have released statements to the fact they deliverately set calibrate speedos to read around -5% + 2kph below real speed. The setting is not consistent so thay can stuff around with tyre size etc.

i have worked out that my 99 fozzy is 7% out,
a few others members in the 4wd club have noticed this aswell,
was the same in my liberty,
basically subaru aim for about 7% less on average,
then it depends on what tyre pressure you have aswell?
as that affects the rolling diameter,
im putting bigger tires on this week, for clearance and to make the speedo more accurate,
i'll keep you posted as to how much closer it gets,

This is fine to do but in the case of the new outback the speed o and odemeter are calibrated diferently meaning the odometer is correct!

Basically changing tyres would make the odometer incorrect affecting all fuel consumption figures etc.

Will just need to live with reading the speed from the GPS although not happy!!
