Hey Rohan.

I bet there will be a race for the first diesel converted L series, Lib, Foz etc etc! I know I won't be in that one... I've just got the EJ in and that was a big job that turned out well!

While there will be diesel subis written off and sold at autions they'll still be asking a hefty price for them! I'd also be waiting for a Gen II at least - this way Subaru will have ironed out any potential bugs in the diesel or its operating system...

A diesel L would be awesome! But there'd be a lot of things to nut out first - after you get hold of them!

Cheers

The biggest issue with fitting the EE20 any older car is the fact that its ECU operates on a CAN (controller area network) bus. Every electrical device is linked and controlled digitally, kinda like a computer network. Somebody will have to work out how to fool the ECU and BCM (body control module) so it will function correctly with just the engine loom.

Some one will work it out - I initially thought an EJ loom cut down would be tricky - it was pretty easy looking back on it.

It has to keep getting more and more difficult to do this sort of thing. I think they call that "evolution". Bastards.

While I'm happy with the EJ20turbo I'll still happily give the diesel a go. If one comes up at the right price while I have some spare money I'll definitely grab it and have a go sticking it in an L :)

First job will be to make up a false floor for Waeco on slide to sit up on so spare is accessable without unpacking whole car. Might also look at adding some film to the front windows to darken them up and match the rest.

Mainly drive it for a while and see what it is asking for!!!!

I would have loved to had the option for the Brumby build. It would certainly make towing better..... Maybe a few years down the track. Maybe I'll do the conversion myself (pulling hair out thinking about it)

Cheers

You'll find the EJ will be a good upgrade in the mean time - you might even forget about the thought of a diesel conversion...

A mate told me about the "diesel shortage" that happens around the time of harvesting the crops... Can be hard to find at times so he tells me and with more diesel cars getting around plus the trucks that practically carry a tanker around with them it might be difficult at times to get enough to get you to a major regional centre where there might be more in stock.

Well Guys, the time has finally come. I am flying to Adelaide to pick up the new Diesel Ouback on Thursday week. 11 weeks is a long time to wait for a car once you decide to take the plunge.

Fairly sure it will be worth it.....I will have a 500km run home to have a play.

Will keep everyone posted.

Love It!!! Love It!!! Love It!!! Love It!!!

Picked up the Car yesterday.....500 plus km trip home and still telling me 400 plus left until empty.....and that was driving half of the trip in 5th gear to vary the RPM. Overtaking was a dream no need to even shift out of 6th....up to 130 - 140 in a flash....oh the torque.

Any others out there with the Diesel yet???? Love to hear your thoughts?

Anyone that is in the market for a new Subie in SA, I highly recommend Jarvis Subaru in Adelaide. They were a dream to deal with from the first meeting and bent over backwards to accommodate our needs.....ask for John he was great to us.
