Afew questions - Sparkplugs - intake resonator and clutch

Post by gerzod » Tue Nov 24, 2009 2:34 pm

Hey guys,
Well i have got abit more spare time now so i can do some stuff with the liberty (96 gen2 gx awd , Ej22). Ive only had it for just under 6 months.
Anyways my fuel economy has been getting a little worse lately (not due to driving habits) and i want to track it down.
I took off the AFM on the intake and checked it, it looks brand new (it is sparkling clean on the inside), and the air filter is very clean as well.
Next i checked the plugs, took them all out, they dont look terrible although abit dirty. Im not sure how dirty they should be before replacing them (dont know how old they are).
I have attached a photo of one of them below, they all look roughly the same. Do you think i need to replace them?

The other thing i wanted to do was remove the intake resonator. I have read afew posts but i am not entirely sure what to do.
I have taken off the gaurd but was not sure if i should remove the WHOLE box, or just unscrew half of it off? as the box seems to be made of two pieces screwed together.
If i do remove the whole thing then how do you take it out? below is a photo.

Third thing is the clutch, i am not sure if it is starting to slip. I bought some of the nulon total fuel system cleaner today (to see if it helps with the fuel economy) and thought i would give the car abit of a squirt on the freeway. Anyways once it gets to 5 or 5.5k revs and above it feels as if the car is not pulling any more. I mean it will pull harder as revs increase but once it hits that rev range and above it feels like the torque is "capped". Is this normal in the libertys? or could this just be a sign of my clutch starting to slip? or is this something else totally.

Lastly, beware for those working under the car, as i was under the car a massive redback almost dropped on my head haha, scared the crap out of me. I have always been warned that they love to nest under the front bumpers but have never had that problem until today lol.

Cheers,
gerzod

The o2 sensor (oxygen sensor) is the first thing id replace if i was having issues with fuel economy.

Its mounted on the top front of the catalytic converter (where the two pipes from the heads join)

Best place to get one is http://cgi.ebay.com.au/OXYGEN-SENSOR-O2 ... -UNIVERSAL

As for the resonator box, have you got a pic of the engine bay so i can get an idea of how its plumbed?

If the box gets its air from above the radiator, id suggest finding a way to bypass it, so you retain the factory cold air intake
