ea82t power figures
can any one out there tell what type of power a standard ea82t has and a modified one as well. ALSO how far eg;boost etc can a standed ea82t handle. And what type of fuel consumpsion they get. Im looking at putting one in my Lseries with a front mount aftermarket ecu 1bar of boost(if it can handle it) full exhaust etc. ANY answers would be great cheers.
I think they were 92KW stock.
Usual things, 3" zorst, FMIC, Air Filter . . . and the key would be an aftermarket computer. However after you've done all of that you'd still have more power, more reliability, better fuel economy and aftermarket support if you'd whacked in an EJ20 turbo and EJ driveline.
I do believe a member of this very community owns an EA82 with about 200KW however.

Monster Subaru sold to a good home!! Still a Subaru owner. Will try stay in the Ausubaru loop. Sorry

By the book its rated at 113ps/4,800rpm (84kw) and 181N-m/2800rpm. This is from a '86 factoty manual and if you account for PULP fuel thats around now, it could be comparable to the Saudi spec vehicle of 136ps/5,600rpm (101kw) and 196N-m/3,600rpm.
I would like to see you setup when you get it going. Sounds good.

'03 Forester X, stock standard for now.
'89 EA82T Touring Wagon, 5-speed D/R, 14" alloy wheels, bullbar. (Past ride)
'81 MY wagon, 3" lift, 5-speed D/R, Weber, 14x27" tyres. (Past ride)

Go with Muddies advice. If you are after major power increases then do not use the EA82T as she will not like it/be reliable (and I own 2 of these engines) for the $$$ you will spend EJ turbo could be a cheaper option (note that my EA82T is beating the EJ N/A)
Thanks being said stock power figures somewhere around 86 although I would like to believe 92 (and both engines are Jap imports) and I am yet to be beaten by another EA82T but that could have more to do with the fact that they are not that common.
Oh, and for 1 of the best build ups on an EA82T have a look at QikRX (on this board in the 4sale section).

Mate the EA82T is a great and reliable motor, their only downfall is head failure due to age, as for strength and fuel economy etc they are fine, I have had several and have constantly run them at 14+psi boost with out a hitch, and with a liftkit and 27 inch tyres fitted could easily sit on the tail of an auto EJ20T Liberty , Dave Gibsons RX with standard sized rubber and no kit isnt far behind a lifted EJ20T with 28 inch tyres etc, so power to weight ratios are pretty close. A moded/lifted EJ20T Liberty is an absolutle gas guzzler around town or when towing, and they absolutly hate being parked/stuck in mud for too long, I recently got stuck in a decent hole that has cause nothing but problems since, it all started when depressing the clutch in the hole caused a load of mud, sticks etc to get jammed behind the clutch teeth , therefore it wouldnt disengage, so the car had the be pulled out with no drive what so ever, this created the second problem, because I had the "dux nuts" subaxtreme bumper replacement bar fitted it has no provisions for replacing the original tow hooks, the car couldnt be towed backwards because that was uphill, so the snatch strap was attatched to the tie down hook on the front instead, which resulted in the whole front corner of the car being litterally torn off, including bending the crap out of the u-bute bullbar, a few weeks later 3 of the cam pully wheels siezed similtaniuosly , the altinator had to be replaced, the front wheel bearing is groaning and I still have a strange noise coming from the front brakes too. An L series RX and an MY wagon both played in the same mud hole with out a hitch. The Lib is a great car but dont be fooled into thinking they are the ultimate when compared to the earlier subes. More moving parts means more problems.....lots more. The EA82T is a great motor, just remember they are getting old, so either rebuild or treat them with some respect and they will be fine, You will find there is plenty of knockers around for the EA82T but most have never owned one.

I dont really know how many people who have really had EA82Ts and done much more that crank the boost up then complain that they have done a headgasket. Simply winding up the boost on a 15year old motor or more will do exactly that blow a head gasket or worse vent a piston. If time is taken and care also you can build a very reliable powerful engine from the std EA82T.
