Help Needed - Gen II Liberty Lift

Post by __JC__ » Mon Sep 21, 2009 2:01 pm

Ok...

I have a Gen II Liberty with Outback Struts and Raised King Springs....

Recently after getting sick of the driveshaft angle. and positive camber I set out to install some crossmember blocks from a Outback. The blocks themselves bolted straight in without a drama

The problem i'm stuck with now is the Steering shaft extension. I have two attempts at getting an OB steering uni from Sunspares, one was apparently from a Gen III OB and the one I tried today was 'apparently' from a Gen II OB. One is too long and the other is no different in length to the Liberty item.

What I'm wondering is whether I either keep getting the wrong part OR the Outback has a different shafts on the column/rack.

It also seems like there should be some sort of spacer between the chassis and gearbox mounts as the box is now close to the exhaust. REALLY over this, would have just purchased a complete 2" kit from Dave but have not been able to get in contact with him. Need some help to get this car driveable again.

Dont make me burn it :-P

Outbacks do have blocks on the gearbox crossmembers and also a different rear control arm bush so with out the whole outback kit you may end up in trouble. Early Outbacks also have blocks on the rear suspension .

Thanks Jeff! I wish I just had a complete Gen II Outback to compare the differences. Wouldve saved a lot of time.

I think i am just going to give up trying to keep things standard subaru and go with a lift kit. I called Scorpion Subaru but they are no longer making kits (told me his jig or whatever for the steering shaft extension isn't working) and I can't get hold of Dave about the BYB kits. PM'd two weeks ago and havent got a reply.

Anyone want a half lifted Gen II Liberty in pieces?

You can put Bug Eye onward lower control arms in the front to solve the negative camber problem (1cm longer & alloy) this is how I overcame the problem with my WRX, then I just lifted the rear on 1" blocks to solve the rear camber probs & left the front alone apart from Foz struts all round.
