P Plate Subaru

Post by jason192 » Sun Jul 19, 2009 12:02 am

Hi All...
I'm looking to get my first Subaru... However being on my P's Can't get a WRX; Unless there's a NA WRX no one told me about...
I've looked at the Liberty, Impreza and Outback... the Outback seems too steep for my liking... The liberty could be a bit big... what advice do you have?

hey mate
im on my p's and i manged to buy an impreza gx my01. Its a pretty awesome car, I originally had a laser, so, serious quality upgrade.
When one considers getting a car, what does one need it for. If its just commuting, not racing, in a subaru... then i seriously suggest what i have.
I have a feeling you can add alot of mods to these cars, so its the second best thing to a wrx.
The RTA also have a ban list on their website of the cars not allowed. I suggest giving up any such thoughts until your on your fulls. We p platers are dying rapidly enough.

cheers

You should be looking at a bombed out L or Liberty! Sounds like you want a small 'hatch', so the imprezza wagon sounds like what you want. Unless you've grown up with cars/driving, I really wouldn't recommend jumping into something like a rex for a first car (if the laws allowed)

If you want and like a small subaru, try the subaru sherpa. In that you wont have to worry about high speeds or cops. Perfect P plater car :D lol
Id suggest a liberty, You can get some real nice looking ones for real cheap. and for looks all you have to do is lower it and through some mags on it. Get a little canon installed for the rumble and the job is done. You can then save for your WRX.

i understand you want a small car, sherpa its not eyes on for cops as they won't bother, but the downside about them is safety.
There are many n/a Imprezas out there worth checking out. Check out RX imprezas. Also check out Liberty as well.
Good luck.
Cheers

As its been said - get a beaten up L or MY, something that is reliable - this way the cops won't bother you, you'll keep your wallet happy and when, not if, your first accident occurs, its not such a great loss of vehicle (unless you really love it by then), or expensive to replace.

The other advantage of an older car is learning what you can do to it/with it without worrying about damaging/screwing up an expensive vehicle ;)

I've had a ball with my L series and will continue to do so - it attracts a lot less attention when compared to my first car, an LC torana! I've had easily as much fun in it if not more.

Cheers
