Morning or Afternoon All.
I have a CVT 2015 Diesel Outback. 290K on the clock and so far nil issues apart from Kangaroos. I'm looking at getting the coolant done and am seeking advice on the type of coolant is suitable.
I was looking at the Nulon Heavy Duty Diesel coolant https://www.nulon.com.au/products/cooli ... oncentrate. It needs diluting 50/50 with water so it will run to about $65.00 plus the distilled water. I had rung Subaru and their genuine premix is $103.00 for 5L and I will need two drums so it is a lot of difference.
Has anyone done their Diesel coolant, and if so what type is recommended or to be avoided?
I was going to replace the thermostat, gasket and radiator cap at the same time. Anything else you would recommend?

I use Penrite blue oem coolant concentrate diluted to the directions.

I have found the red coolant to do nothing but make crystals in the cooling system and destroy the radiator and heater in my forester

G’day Norm,
I’d say anything that works with aluminium will be fine. I don’t see a difference between diesels and petrol engines. I’m running genuine Toyota coolant in my L series (petrol) and Gen3 Pajero (diesel) both with “good” results (eg no issues).
I haven’t purchased the Toyota coolant in a while, when I was it was better priced than the post mix aftermarket stuff.
I think the most important thing to consider is what temp ranges your vehicle is expected to operate or sit around in. If you’re headed to the snow or doing hot climate trips, an anti freeze, anti boil would be the best one to use. Brand probably doesn’t mean much these days.
Also be sure to completely flush out the old coolant as different types can mix to create a gel like substance that doesn’t do anything for your cooling system other than stuff it right up from working!
