Just hoping a few fellow owners of the forester diesel can post their fuel milage. Between 6.4 and 6.8 l/100km Canberra based, both city and country. Gives me ~800km until I fill the tank at the warning light (~14l left- this doesn't match the handbook, which says it should be 10l left). It was ove...

Guess what, nothing is fixed there are two shot glow plugs and a blown fuse, all have to ordered from Japan and they will call me when the parts come in. and Interesting. That's exactly the problem I had with the lights and the two stuffed glowplugs and fuse. Fortunately, I only had to wait overnig...

Thunk or clunk
Has anyone had a 'clunk' or 'thunk' accelerating through ~2500rpm? Well I went for a bit of a burn today and it reinforced how well the Forester seems to soak up lumpy bitumen. It especially seems to stop the car getting badly floaty over drop-aways. But once again I had the (empty) rear skip/hop ov...

Mess, I really feel for you and I think you have the patience of a Saint...by now I probably would have done to the dealer (or perhaps Subaru) what that guy in a Pajero did to Parliament house a few years ago! Maybe this time you go back you could get them to tell you what codes they read out that a...

Softroader, thanks for the articles, very interesting and informative. And sounds like you have a reasonable dealer there- hang on to them! I posted some similar article links regarding oil dilution and post/retarded injection- see my post of 16th March in the Diesel Drivetrain Shudder thread. Given...

Latest... If I could turn back time, I'd buy an Xtrail diesel or Skoda Octavia Scout. Errr, bad news on the Xtrail/Pathfinder front- was in at an auto-electrician to pick up my Old Blue Bomb ( '90 Pulsar :-) ). In the shop was a new Pathfinder- bonnet up, bits out- I asked the auto-electrician, who...

Teye, for the most part you are right, especially regarding the engine 'revability', I've been meaning to say that myself, just couldn't express it as well as you! And I drive mine similarly to you. But these vehicles for the most part are sold in urban areas and subject to urban driving conditions....

The local dealership rang me to say that Subaru Australia is waiting for a fix from FHI for this problem with the warning lights and inoperative cruise. Apparently "a number" of vehicles are experiencing this problem. My wife experienced something similar after tromping on the brakes during collisi...

Ricker, I have had to deal with dealers on warranty issues before and I found the following helpful. This includes my current Forester diesel. * Keep a cool head. Approach them calmly, with all your info at hand and explain clearly. * Don't ring the dealer, or they will book you in at their convenie...

I have a contact whose Forester is going in to his dealer tomorrow for this shudder problem, which was chronic. Passengers were NOT pleased, and he had to answer to his family too! He has been told it is the EGR valve to be replaced. This, of course, does relate to emission control and affects the ...

The following are a couple of articles I found in the Internet that relate to DPF regeneration and oil dilution. May also be of interest to Falco80 in the "Diesel Particulate Filter - DPF " thread as that is what he experienced. It would also be interesting to know if the Subaru ECU actually measure...

Ricker and Falco80: I have experienced the shudder once. I shudder at the thought of it...(sorry!) Best approximation to the shudder I can think of is thus: - Place an unbalanced load in your top-loading washing machine. - Close the lid and sit on it. - Start the spin cycle. Bonus points i...

MY11OBD, No my values are the correct way around! I seem to be more efficient in the 'city'. I drive like a Sunday grandpa around town (watch for that hat!) but keep the revs up a bit. My other cars- SP23 and N13 Pulsar- show similar results; city/country similar or only marginally favour country. J...

MY11OBD, Economy: ~6.6l/100km around town ~7-7.2l/100km highway. We get ~800km before refilling (at the yellow light, still 10-15l left) Note I drive around town like your old grandma with a governor fitted to an 1100cc Beetle and mostly outside peak hour. On the highway, I sit on a GPS 110km/h, 2 p...

Revised diesel Forester shift points from Subaru Aust
Today I received form my dealer a sheet with the revised shift points for the diesel Forester, so I consider the following shift changes 'official'. I mentioned a 'tech note' previously, apparently this is incorrect- it is technical advice from Subaru Australia (not FHI Japan) to their dealers. Deta...

and more... workaround info from a service dept
I posted the following in subaruforester.org but it's probably more relevant here now (some minor editing done). ------- Spoke to my local dealer today regarding this DPF issue. Apparently there is a 'tech note' out in the past couple of weeks to mitigate the DPF regen issue. The advice is to revise...

But wait, there's more...
Hi, Been on the subaruforester.org forums, they suggested I see over here, so I've decided to wade on in :-) I received today some interesting info from a dealer, that's in my next post. Background: My wife and I obtained a Diesel Forester in Au 2010. Has 13k kms, serviced early Jan. One incident of...
