Well as soon as I get my car back together I can go out hunting! It's my mission to find this guy and tell him about the forums, I can't believe he'd have such a modded Brumby (obviously enthusiast) and not be here. mattw I live around Flagstaff hill / aberfoyle, only times I've seen it w...

Have you rebuilt the/any carb yet? If it is second hand (?) and hasn't been rebuilt there could be all sorts of blockages and bits in there.

Could be, looked like something to deflect wind/debris off the windshield. I've seen a few bigger 4WD's with them.

Digging up this thread again, I found it! :-D I saw it again today and have a good idea of where it lives. Drove past a side street and it popped out, got a closer look this time but still fleeting. Had a blue/green shield thing above the grille that says "Rascal" Definitely going to go down that st...

Sheesh that would take a while :) do you mean a polishing wheel or a wire brush? Kinda wishing I got it all sand blasted while it was apart...oh well. It's still 100x cleaner than when I started. Also turns out someone I know has an engine hoist, can borrow it whenever I like :p So possibly engine i...

Nah socket held up fine, it would take a hell of a lot to break even half a socket like I used. Little bit more progress today, cleaned up the oil pump and installed it along with water pump. I'm debating what to do next, I wasn't going to put the manifold back on until the engine is back in the car...

Good idea Bennie, all holes are now safely covered, and no rags this time ;) Just put the oil pickup tube and sump back together, not as hard as I thought. Once the tube was frozen I just tapped a block of wood with a hammer against the flange and it went straight in. Hardest part was cleaning the b...

Got a cheap socket and ground it down, ended up with below pic and that was only just enough to get about 1/8th of a turn  After that though the heads went on with no troubles, looks like an engine again! Next is the oil pick up tube (dread :???:) and oil pan. Right now the pickup tube is ...

Yeah I remember, also thought I remembered something about it being a difficult tool to come by? :o Might be able to get to supercrap tonight if they're open and get a cheap socket (17mm) to grind down.

Don't let over excitement get in the way of the work you still need to do to properly rebuild this engine. Just make sure you do everything that is needed to be done! And don't get your hopes down if it doesn't fire up first time - this always gets me :( Other than that it sounds like everything is...

Have replaced the flywheel housing and front/rear oil seals. How do I go about torque-ing the crank pulley bolt at the front? Manual says to do it after the flywheel is in place but has no tips on how to keep everything still while I put the huge torque on it. After the seals the engine was back on ...

Yeah I was wondering about break in too, will see what I can do but there aren't many mountains around here ;) Might have to go up to Mt. Lofty and back the long way down the freeway. Definitely replacing parts like oil sender while the engine is out, also getting a new clutch (old one is still good...

Managed to sort something out for that bolt, it wasn't stripped really badly so I could get some torque on it, just hope it holds! Just did the pistons, and (almost) everything went without a hitch. Only thing that went bad was the piston rings popping out of the compressor before they got into the ...
