I looked into using OBD2 & from my understanding Subaru in there wisdom decided to rewrite the software code, making it impossible to read from a normal scanner, you'll need to get a scanner that talks to the ECU with the correct format + they is really hard to find ... :/ So yes, only real solution...

Modern electrical systems are much more complex to get setup & running nowadays - So unless your willing to do some study / research & get some practical experience into how to do these things, I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. Do a bit of Google searching to see what's available for your mode...

Good tip on the charge light, would including a resistor ( of certain value ? ) to create correct load in circuit help ?
I'd note the some LED's already come with resistors in them, just got to work out if they are correct rating ...

Yep the fake leather look, there's been a hold up on that as I haven't worked out how to do it yet.
I had thoughts of using an imprint stamp ( heat up & brand basically ) but open to suggestions ...
Only other way I know of is to make a mold to inject / cast into ... :/

Mine is an Auto if that makes any difference in the mounting position of engine forwards an extra few mm ?
