In reference to installing the crankshaft pulley & bolt. 27) Install crankshaft pulley on crankshaft with flange bolt. Torque: 64 to 74Nm/ 6.5 to 7.5 kgm/47 to 54 ftlb Note: a. Oh yes, anyone have a factory Subaru manual or know for certain what the tightening torque is for the pulley bolt. I have manuals which are telling me anywhere between 53 and 74 Nm. This is a big difference so I want to do what Subaru recommend not what Gregories/Haynes etc state if it is different ...

OD of seal - I've never put anything on them! ID rubber grease to prime the seal. Pulley bolt - I've used a bit of the Chrome Molly cv grease on the thread and the mounting face of the bolt. This allows proper torquing of the bolt and of the grease manages to go dry it's not going to seize on. Doin...

Hi Cliff, be very interested to hear how it goes, I suspect I will need to do some thing similar sooner rather than later.. please keep a hold of the part numbers is it is a success as you may find a tribe of us trying the same thing. Peter I plan to keep all info and pass this on to the forum. The...

Ordered a new aluminum radiator.
Be here Tuesday hopefully.
Informed it will fit early Brumby's and Leone's and will fit dual elec thermo fans.
If it isn't right it can go back.
Here's hoping it doesn't need any mods to fit.
I don't have any other details till it arrives.

Bugger....
Replaced the fan thermo switch into the radiator and now I have a pin hole leak in the radiator tank next to the switch.
Spose it has gone 34 years so cant complain.
Off to the wreckers in the next week to see what I can find.

Just to keep this issue bubbling along, I understand L series seats fit straight into an MY but like the MY seats they are getting old so probably not much point in this direction. What I would like to know though, is do the L series seat rails bolt straight into an MY or is it only the L series sea...

The Ebay alternator may used switched power instead of permanent power like the EJ model alternators. You may find you need to run the nissan alternator off 12 volts that is only on with the ignition, so that when the engine isn't running the module in the alternator isn't drawing power from the ba...

Car started fine this morning and this afternoon.
The only change ?
Swapping the new alternator out to the old one.
Still don't know why the alternator would drain the battery but it appears that is what is happening.

I think the thermo switch that controls the electric fans and screws into the radiator is a Trident P/N TFS195.
Can anyone confirm this or suggest another brand/part number ?

A while ago I bought this of ebay. http://ausubaru.com.au/picture.php?albumid=19&pictureid=2465 I fitted it to the wagon soon after I bought it but had issues like what I have described within this thread. I thought it was the battery so replaced the battery. At the time I also went back to the orig...

MY EA81 starting circuit

Went to start the wagon yesterday morning and all that I could hear was what I think was the clicking of the starter solenoid. The battery is new so I rolled it off to the side of the driveway and went to work in the Suzuki Grand Vitara (daily driver). In the arvo I hopped into the wagon and if fire...

You could try hitting up FROG and see what he can find. If non in Oz, grab the part number and check partsouq.com (I think that's it, been a while since I've used it). I've used a small bit if coolant hose with a car tie to get it around the dizzy without kinking... Cheers Bennie Bennie The 5/16" f...

EA81 MY inlet manifold coolant hose

Anyone know if we can still get new ones of that pesky small coolant hose that runs from the passenger side of the inlet manifold on an EA81 and runs from the the manifold (just below where the carby bolts on to the manifold) to coolant system across towards the passenger strut tower. This is it and...

Probably because it hasn't been used for about 12-13 years! Cheers Bennie I have been pretty slack with the A/C. What with family stuff, moved houses, getting our old house ready for sale, car isn't a daily driver etc the years have flown. On the plus side, yes, it hasn't had any use for 15 years.

MY wagons are my 2nd favourite Subaru & there's not many left, so anything you can do to keep it & not let it get wrecked or crushed, is a good thing. Check up on current laws, I know in Vic things have changed a lot recently Can't even begin to think about wrecking/crushing the car so no danger of...

Ended up getting time to pull the wires off the drier, used a lead to join them together and started the car.
Both the fans started up when the cabin fan was switched on and the A/C button pushed so all is well.
Thanks guys for all the help.

Silverbullet. Your the man !!!! From your info re the radiator thermo switch turning the main radiator fan on I thought that the thermo switch should be a normally open type and when it gets to temp the contacts close sending the circuit to earth so turning the fan on. Note - I replaced the radiator...
