Time for an update: A little while ago I got my hands on a new radio head unit so it was time to do away with the old factory sat nav and install something developed in this century that comes with iPod connection and bluetooth to keep me in the good books with the boys in blue. First, removing all ...

Auto radiators have a transmission heat exchanger on the bottom tank. Manual radiators don't... If you're towing, they say it's a good idea to fit a transmission oil cooler (air cooler) in addition to what the radiator already does. Mind you, after 2 failed top tanks, I replaced my OEM radiator with...

^ Thanks for the reply... I think your points make a lot of sense, and I'm starting to agree that the centre diff is not fully and properly locked when first gear is selected as I get no hopping when doing a tight turn on bitumen, for example... I might need to get myself a switch and some resistors...

I've never heard of a Prodrive TCU and I wasn't aware that 2007 XT's had VTD as standard. The sportshift tip-tronic feature is a product of the Prodrive TCU... Subaru had an association with them for a while until they started using their CVT gearboxes... From what I've read over time, the Prodrive...

Hi Liberty Valance, That is one very good looking Forester! Need to get a few tips from you... Tell us more about the MPT Clutch Lockup mod, I would've thought your vintage Forester (same as mine) would have come with the VTD centre diff and Prodrive transmission control unit. Did you swap that out ...

From here, we started to head back down and I was slightly concerned with my fuel consumption so far. I was doing 16.7L/100km according to my ScanGauge! Not nice considering I didn't take any spare fuel... https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/324/18757089245_18960f149b_c.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/3...

TR: Vic High Country May 2015
So some of the boys - me included - have been itching for a High Country trip and it finally happened 2 weeks before the tracks closed for winter... We met early on Saturday morning at Pakenham's BP servo before heading for Dargo: https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/495/18570877469_b266ee8242_c.jpg It was...

Phiz, in a similar fashion to the dying profession of a blacksmith, I think the amateur/home mechanic is also a disappearing role. Mainly due to the technological evolution of vehicles these days requiring specialised attention. Some of the effects of that are shops like SCA selling more and more se...

I'm not sure, but sometimes it seems this is a Subaru specific issue. If you look at Australian Land Rover forums and Australian Jeep Forums, they seem very busy to me. Is it a case of new Subaru owners not having the same mindset as the old? What's the newest Subaru you've seen offroading? I feel t...

In order to narrow down the issue and eliminate the suspect offending component, couldn't you remove/disconnect your tail-shaft and lock your centre DCCD to do a test drive in FWD?? If the problem is gone, you'll know it's in that diff somehow... Many reasons for your backlash to be high besides wor...

My unobtainable Subaru (hopefully for the moment) is a Brumby. Straight, no rust, no frills... Something like this: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/OTYwWDEyODA=/z/rC4AAOSwv0tVH0Q3/$_20.JPG http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/reid/cars-vans-utes/1989-subaru-brumby-in-very-good-condition/1075225446 I would then ...
