Mitchhsj, i noted that little bugger and actually thought the same thing. Even when i took off the Hitachi, that section was a bit corroded. I put heaps of gaskit goo, and hope for the best. The plate covers it well. Donn't know why or where the water goes.

Hi Brumby Kid and Silver Bullet, The 2 nut hole thingy is seperate. I think if you filed a slot it would weaken it too much. Silver bullet, the cable is on the same side as the Hitachi, just does'ny have the "wheel" with the cable slot. There is some Weber cables available in the UK, but the pedal e...

Weber conversion going well..BUT!!!!

Hi guys, Just fitting my new weber, with everything going fairly smoothly until i got to the accelerator cable. The weber has the 2nut tightening system for the cable to thread throug a hole, so it meant cutting off the lead mallet shaped end that fitted the old carb. Disaster. As expected the cable...

Thanks Toonga, i will keep it. $319 for genuine new weber, manual choke cable, filter, plate and fittings. $60 postage. and every email answered, unlike some in Aus. The adapter plate alone here is $60 + post. No wonder Aussies are shopping online.

The carby guy in the U.S says the EA82 has the same stud pattern as my EA81 manifold, 80mm x 45mm. He will supply it with the carb.

Thanks Toonga, i take it the carby would screw to the adapter and the adapter to the manifold. Is that correct mate? Also do you have any more info or description for the adapter?

cheers Rick

Weber carb conversion question.

Hi all, Was thinking about the above, and located one on ebay from the U.S. Great price too! Anyway i emailed them and the guy said they had a problem with a few of the Aussie Brumbies because the carbie studs were a bit different. he says they should measure (centre of studs) 70mm x37mm. Mine are a...

I think the guy that invented static straps became a multi millionaire and then disappeared to some tropical island. we used to see hundreds in the 70's, i think they were a placibo accessory.

Thanks for that info Paul. I'm seriously thinking about a weber. Is there much hassle fitting those emission pipes mate?
I didn't think you'd need a permit, most of our cops would'nt know what a weber was (perhaps i won't tell hem). thanks for the link, the yanks cream us on price eh?
Cheers Rick

That's a good point Steptoe. I assume that the weber would have to be a straight swap and all PCV hoses would have a place. We are lucky in the west, we don't have to have annual inspections. I can't see putting a Weber on would be breaking any laws. I'd be going for the one in the U.S for my 83, th...

Thanks boys that's the way i think i always wanted to go. I guess if you strip it yourself and take all the bits to the machine shop, that keeps the cost down. I've never worked on a boxer motor. My limited experience has been with minis. Are they fairly basic, and what do machine shops charge these...

Good idea Brumby kid! The engine is still pretty sound, just a little oil burn, no major rattles. I think a rebuild with a nice webber may be the go.
