Cap coil and coil lead are new . Its hard to believe all the plug leads would die at once , surely it would cough and missfire a little . Distibutor guts wise no way to tell , and no spares . I guess I could remove the rotor button but I don't think theres much to learn doing it . I am 99% sure the ...

More checking . Distributor turns so RH belt must be intact . Got three bolts out of LH belt cover but lower LH ones done the usual trick , can flex it far enough to see that the LH belt looks intact and under reasonable tension . Also have within 0.2V of battery voltage at the + side of the coil wi...

Going to make life interesting if cam timing is out because I don't think the people who machined the flywheel replaced the timing marks on it . Ignition timing is done with a Vortex front pointer and a mark on the crank pulley . I'll have to do the basic crank with the dizzy cap off to see if it re...

New coil in and - no joy no change . I know this thing has fuel pressure because the aftermarket reg , downstream of the std buried one , has a gauge which reads 40 psig when the pumps running . I can smell fuel from the exhaust pipe after cranking it for a while . Theres a couple of things I notice...

Well the FrWD rear struts are actually longer because they mount lower on the semi trailing arms than the 4WD ones do . Dimensionally I think early (85-86) RX Turbos had the best rear struts and they used the same slightly higher rate springs as the L RX coupes . Don't quote but I think the spring r...

No big hill here , she cranks fast enough to start - if there is enough fuel spark and compression . I doubt towing or clutching would help . I don't know if the coil has failed its just that Coxy reckons the spark from the coil lead shoud be blue not yellow - something about the spark voltage being...

EA82MPFI/T ignition coil register .
Hi all , can people here using non OE ignition coils please list what they have used successfully in their MPFI/turbo powered Ls . I hear mention of a few conventional coils as well as some Bosch type transformer coils . I just need to know what works so I stand some change of buying something new t...

Its a real juggle with L Sedans , damn Subaru for not fitting the rear bump stop system like wagons have . The problem is that you have to have enough suspension travel for the dampers to work properly . When you lower cars they get closer to their bump stops so the spring rates need to be high enou...

Still no joy , tried some start Ya Bastard and that did SFA . Not a cough or fart . I asked Gardners if any of their suppliers listed a coil for an early EA82T . Bosch lists one that no ones ever see though Tridon have one under part number TICO33 . Steptoe did you say you tried a Bosch MEC717 and i...

Oomph , dunno . Mine is the only RX L Series I've ever been in , and probably only one of possibly four I've ever seen in the Flesh . I think I've have seen more Vortexs and they are thin on the ground . No time to do anything today or tomorrow . May be able to find a coil if I get off work early en...

I was surprised that nothing unusual came out the exhaust when it was running . I think the challenge is going to be stopping the plugs getting excess fuel on them now if it won't fire up straight away . Anyhow have new dizzy cap and a set of NGK BPR6ES plugs to go in at episode 3 . Fingers crossed ...

I think there are two reasons Subaru went away from the lockable open center diff idea . Firstly the Liberty/Legacy box was a redesign to handle larger capacity engines and heavier cars - higher torque capacity . People found out early that turbo torque is hard on AWD transmissions because you doubl...

Some call them gas grooves and claim that when pads/discs get really hot you can get pockets of gas between them forming a kind of hydroplane action . If you have an escape path the gasses can vent via the grooves . I don't imagine many discs get machined these days but doing grooved ones ones would...
